Cam ranked smack dab in the middle of QBs according to some league insiders

top dawg

by all means bash him for his stupid beard or whatever, but if you say he's not good, or not the best young QB in the league, you're a moron and don't watch football.

This is retarded. Arguments can easily be made in favor of either Cam or Wilson, who is statistically the most efficient of the three. He is one of the best young QB's not "the" best.

I don't really give a rat's ass who everybody calls the best or the top five or the top three or top whatever.

Only thing I care about: Is my quarterback really good?  Good enough to win games, playoffs, Super Bowl, etc?

Yes?  Then we're fine.

Now that you mention it I dont.

But, oddly enough, when the people who care about the other thing comment about the other thing, you always seem to comment about the people who who care about the other thing who comment about the other thing.

And you point out how odd it is that the other people "care" about this thing.

But now you say you don't CARE?

WEIRD.

Oh yes, very serious. He was a 5 star talent out of high school, won 3 national titles in 3 years with 3 different teams in college, had the greatest single season in college football history taking a 5 loss team the years before and after his presence to their only national title since 1957, has the greatest stat line by far for any NFL player in history through 3 years, has improved every year, and has physical skills second to none ("off the graph" as described by Luck(y)'s college coach), and, for good measure, is neighbors with MJ (who also had doubters/haters and didn't win a title his first 7 years with a sub-par supporting cast).

College stats and physical size don't mean poo in the NFL, and Dan Marino had 8 more tds than cam during his first 3 seasons

It is interesting to compare Newton's numbers with a completely pedestrian player like Andy Dalton's.

Both came into the league at the same time. Dalton is 26. Newton is 25.

Both have started for 3 years.

Over the course of their careers, Dalton has a higher passer rating in 2 of the 3 years, has thrown for more yardage overall, has thrown 16 more touchdowns, and their career passer ratings and interception percentages are nearly identical. (Dalton has a slightly better TD percentage).

In terms of raw production in their "best" years, in 2011 Newton had 4,757 yards of Total offense and 35 total touchdowns.

while in 2013 Dalton had  4,476 yards of Total Offense and 35 total touchdowns.

And before the "Yeah, but Dalton's got A.J. Green" is invoked,

over the course of those 3 seasons, Smitty had 216 receptions for 3,313 yards and a 15.3 average.

while A. J. Green had 260 receptions for 3,833 yards and a 14.0 average.

Was Green better overall during that period??? ...probably, but not by as much as you might think.

And Newton had a much better TE to work with during the same period.

Time to blame Shula and Chudzinski.

We'll see. If he can truly be a consistent passer he'll probably be the best offensive weapon in the league.

WR talent factors a lot here as well. Cam is not the most accurate and has a tendency to over throw people, so Gettleman goes out and gets several savvy WRs with excellent hands over 6 ft tall. Then there's the monster that is Kelvin Benjamin (assuming his play matches his physical skills).

I actually think we improved a lot in our WR corps in terms of finding players that match our QBs skill set and personality for that matter. As much as I love Steve Smith, there's only so much Cam could tell him that he would actually listen to.

I expect a bounce back year for Ryan because of gettin his WRs healthy again, and I expect an excellent year for Cam due to the upgraded receiving unit.

Did Dalton (the #35 overall pick taken ahead of Kaepernick) set an NFL record for rushing TDs or ever make a play with his legs like Cam vs the Pats on 3rd and 7? Next.

There's no doubt in anyone's mind Cam is better than Dalton. No one is arguing that. Also, besides Cam, very very few (if any) could have made that 3rd and 7 play with his legs. That being said, your job on 3rd and 7 is to get 7 or more yards. A 14 yard PASS would have benefited us just as well. Can Dalton run like Can? God no. But FYI, QBs can throw. yards are yards regardless of how you get them. So if your asking about style points, yeah Cam's magical, but don't act like he's the only guy who can convert 3rd & 7. Had he just completed a decent pass, not a single person on this forum would remember the play, but it would have continued the drive regardless.

Ha! No one else would have had lint enough to pass last season. Every other quarterback (You could argue Big Ben MAYBE) would have been decimated in our pocket. I would have loved to see how Manning would do on our team, because I really doubt we go 8-8.

Oh it's TonyN again. How cute.

Andy Dalton has put up 87 touchdowns in his first three seasons, but he's completely pedestrian? Are you high?

Green had 681 more yards (1,426 total, nearly double), and 7 more TD's (11 total) than Smith last season, and Dalton had a career year. Go figure huh? Dalton's #2 WR Jones even put up 712 yards and 10 TD's compared to Newton's #1 WR in Smith who put up 745, and 4 TD's.

Stay on your hiatus please.
