Cam ranked smack dab in the middle of QBs according to some league insiders

top dawg

Cam ranks in the middle of the pact in terms of passing, the running threat gives him more of a dynamic no doubt.  But in terms of QB throwing ability I have to say he is not elite yet.  He has a ton of room to improve, the short and middle accuracy needs improvement.  He's not on par with Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers.

You obviously hadn't watched last season. Cam dramatically improved on his short and middle passing.

Heres the deal: Cam was rated 24th overall best player in the league BY HIS PEERS. Luck was rated 30th. Ill take the word of actual players much more than a bunch of nerds that sit behind computers and come up with algorithms to evaluate players. The real players know Cam is an elite player

Same broken record. Luck is as good as 10 to 15 year HOF worthy vets and Cam is an inconsistent great runner. Stats and playing style similaries be damned. Rinse and repeat.

It won't change unless Cam has a irrefutably historical season. I for one would love to see a Colts vs Panthers super bowl just to settle this...

Everyone forgets that 75 yard run he did escaping all those sacks. Just an awful runner.

So does that mean he doesn't need to improve more to be in the ranks of the QB's I mentioned?  does that mean he had no over throws or inaccurate passes last year?

Since when he is the only QB to have an overthrow or inaccurate pass in a game? I don't think there is anyone here, minus a few homers, who are arguing that Cam is on the Brady/Brees/Manning/Rodgers passing level...yet. Not having him at least in the top 15 though is absurd.

Interesting follow up article here about the discrepancy between execs and coaches ratings. Execs actually had a far higher rating of Cam than actual coaches.

http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpost?blogname=mike-sando&id=8458&src=desktop

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

TIER PERSONNEL COACHES

1 0.0% 0.0%

2 73.3% 9.1%

3 26.7% 81.8%

4 0.0% 9.1%

5 0.0% 0.0%

Eleven of 15 personnel evaluators placed Newton in Tier 2, while nine of the 11 coaches gave Newton a Tier 3 grade. A quarterbacks coach even placed him down in the Tier 4, noting that the Panthers have been relying on their ground game and defense to win games.

"He has all the tools and he is a big dude, too,” one defensive coordinator remarked. “Can you give him a 2½? I think if he has the same year he had last year, he elevates to a [Tier] 2. I give him a 3 right now."

Luck, like Newton, is an athletic marvel. Their rare physical attributes make them especially appealing to personnel types. Coaches appreciate those things as well, but are more likely to value a finished product. Luck accumulated a vast amount of experience in a pro-style offense at Stanford, while Newton was relatively raw coming out of Auburn.

That's not what I was saying, my original post said he still has to improve in those areas to be considered elite.  And from a passer point of view he very much is middle of the pack.   Obviously it's not all his fault, but it's still obvious that he ranks statistically in the middle of the pack in terms of passing.   His ability to run and make plays from the pocket boost him up a bit, but that's not relevant to his ability to execute passing plays from the pocket.

14th overall NFL passer rating

16th overall completion percentage

5th overall sacked the most

15th overall in passing yards

1st overall in being hit on throws

Anyone ranking QB's needs to take the entire game for said quarterback into account. Cam obviously has progressing to do in the passing aspect, he's only played three NFL seasons after one year in the BCS, but his game as a whole should push him arguably into the top 12.

I love the random Panther fans "informing the world" about how good/bad a QB is, after you've all only seen him play less than 8 times. Just imagine the full belly laugh we would all have if a random Chargers fan was telling us the "truth" about Cam. Did you let that sink in? You done laughing? Cuz that's how ridiculous anyone heres "critique" of Andrew Luck is. Watch him play, or STFU. If you don't like him, by all means bash him for his stupid beard or whatever, but if you say he's not good, or not the best young QB in the league, you're a moron and don't watch football. Dude is 100% clutch and can make every throw. Cam blows him out of the water in terms of running ability of course, but only Rodgers and Manning can put the ball in better locations than Luck.

-Since 2012, Luck is 3-3 after falling behind by 17+ points in 1st half. The rest of NFL is 5-91.

-15-2 in games decided by 7 points or fewer.

Someone that accurate and yet struggle to complete a mere 60% of his passes. Yikes!

2013 Stats:

Cam:

473 attempts

13 INTs

1 interception every 36 passes

Luck:

570 attempts

9 interceptions

1 interception every 63 passes
