Panthers should sign Tim Howard

MLS is steadily improving as well.

Improving yes, but still pretty sad when it comes to ratings. We want to watch quality sports with whatever we watch. Hard to call MLS quality when there's European options available. I would be the first one to become more interested in the MLS IF they brought a team to Charlotte. Until that happens I'll be a European Football fanatic and watch MLS here and there.

Railhawks games are fun and dirt cheap to get into. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if an MLS squad gets placed in Charlotte in the near future.

The difference is that soccer has only been a major sport in the USA for 20 years.  Compare that to over 100 years for baseball and 80 years for football.  When I went to school we didn't even have a soccer team and in my college it was a club sport and no scholarships were offered.

Soccer is growing because more programs are starting and more kids are playing which then builds fans through them and their parents.  My wife has watched a ton of soccer games this year because my son plays.  She rarely goes to the Panthers although we have PSLs.  People who find soccer boring do so because they can't appreciate the nuances of the game and have no idea what they are watching.  Much like someone who has never played football or hockey are baffled by all the rules.

As for how long the game last it is 90 minutes with extra time added for injury and deliberate delays since the clock keep running.  Now we are in the round of 16 in the world cup they break ties with 2 extra periods of 15 minutes and a penalty shootout if they are still tied.  That is easier to figure out than sudden death overtime or in baseball where you play and play until someone wins.

Here you go, read this and you might enjoy the game more.

Another thing about the US and soccer. We have 4 major sports. Europe has 1. Soccer just can't compete.

Also, don't really care to read about the rules, or how they seem to keep time. It doesn't add to the fact that the game is boring. Nuances or not. There just aren't enough exciting plays to justify 90+ minutes.

In a normal game you get what, 10 shots. Ooh. Such excitement can't be good for people. I mean, 0-0 after 90+ minutes. Wow, that's entertainment.

I just don't get it. Maybe in Europe where they have nothing else it may make sense. But here in the ol' US of A, we like our sports to be exciting. And soccer just doesn't fit the bill.

Hey listen. I have nothing against soccer per se. But I just can't see where the draw is. If you like it, fine by me. As I said, it just doesn't do it for me. And for a bunch of others as well.

I get that more kids are playing. When that finally means something, then we will see how soccer fairs. Until then, it is the red headed step child of the ginger foundation. It may mean something to some folks, but not much to the rest.

It's sad how little you know about the game... Played 15 years. It's the most beautiful teamwork sport in the world. And the skill level is world class.

Also, why do you think the NFL is protecting their players more and more. Lawsuits? No. They are trying to protect their finances. Yes, it's the dominate money making sport in the US. But more and more parents are pulling their kids out of football and putting them in soccer. It's a safer, less aggressive sport. In turn, those kids will likely grow up appreciating soccer more simply because that's what they played. I LOVE my panthers. But if you really think soccer doesn't have room to compete in America, you are sorely mistaken. In 30 years, I garuntee you it will be a force. That's the biggest youth league sport in our country man. Wait til those kids grow up.

Kind of what I'm banking on. Would definitely go to them on a regular basis.

I think MLS has said Charlotte would get a team if an ownership group comes forward. Renovate memorial stadium and have games there to start and then build.

If you have the team play in uptown, I think it would be successful. Look at the Knights since moving this year

It doesnt fit the bill for you. I am finding I like it better than basketball or baseball. I find it more exciting than either. Im sorry the injury time concept is so complex to figure out.

The rating have been destroying the NBA finals and the World Series and that was the Portugal game. The Belgium game destroyed the ratings of the Portugal game. So obviously people care at the moment.

One of the big reasons it's never taken off in the US because we haven't figure out a way to market 90 straight minutes without a single commercial when you compare it to something like Football, per se.  Football is a 60 minute game that takes 3+ hours due to all the stops and mandatory commercial timeouts.  They profit heavily off of that with all the advertisement money that rakes in.

Soccer is going to be a major sport in this country sooner rather than later, the money is there and growing. And we have room, our sports obsession is practically unlimited. The rest of the world is already resigned to the fact that we will be a future force. Now we just have to get football exported at a better rate, which is hard because it's so expensive to play.

Soccer is actually very inexpensive to play, this the reason most all countries, regardless of money, play soccer. All you need is something kinda round and something to kick it at. That's it.

Organized soccer is a tad more expensive. The fields are large and need to be well-maintained.
