A Positive Panthers Preseason Piece

Everyone knows the LT situation was better but I honestly don't know how the receivers we have this season don't look better on paper than they did last year. Our secondary looks better on paper. Our defensive line looks better on paper than it did knowing what we know about our rookies. Our QB looks better on paper than he did. Our running game looks better on paper with a healthy on paper backfield and a stronger on paper interior line with a center not coming back from a season ending injury/surgery. The linebackers also look better on paper knowing Luke really is an all pro and Klein and Blackburn can contribute. We had no idea what we had in the safety position and now on paper we have all kinds of veterans as well as Robert Lester who can contribute. We know that Melvin White is a piece to work with and have another veteran in Cason coming in. On paper we look better to me than we did going into last season.....on paper.

On paper....

I agree with this. Overall I think we are better on paper this year than last. Hopefully it also translates to the field and we continue our success and finally get that second straight winning season.

re: WRs familiarity >> unfamiliarity ...on paper.

plus we had one proven big playmaker in the WR corps and now we have none.

I'd like to thank you, whoever the author of this piece is, for writing something positive about the Panthers.  I want to claw my eyes out every time I read about: A. Terrible WR

B. Terrible Secondary

C. Terrible OT

I appreciate you allowing me to keep my sight for another day.  In fact I've seen the light.  From now on, when the talking heads make that point, I'll just claw out a taint, buc, or poo bird fans eyes out.  Win, win I think.

I don't understand how we are not as good on paper as last season. Aside from OT I think we definitely upgraded

Our WRs last year were crap for our system.

it's the 'unknown' factor.

Objectively, if I weren't a Panther fan and I saw our starting LT choices were Nate Chandler and Byron Bell, our receiving corps was made up of a raw rookie and a bunch of backups and our secondary was pieced together (again), I'd have my doubts too.

Like I said elsewhere, if the doubters are gonna be proved wrong, it'll be on the field.

I agree with all that, but LT is such an important position it can make the entire offense seem worse on paper.

OK, we have no proven comodedies at WR. That's what the season is for.. Proving poo.the season isn't won on paper in July

we have a lot of unproven commodities in the secondary, OL, and WR corps.

i have faith that the WRs will be better. i have faith that we won't see a drop off in effectiveness in the secondary (thanks to the 6-7 guys in front of them), i feel like we have the makings of a very formidable interior OL, and...well i hope that the OTs don't suck.

all of that, tho, have to be proven. what we have right now is a lot of real question marks...more than most teams at the top, despite the success of last year. we had a lot of changes take place that just don't happen to teams that finish like we do and then repeat that success the following year.

it very well could work out, but then it could also be that we take a few steps back next year in building a perennial winning team.
