Jazz Plan To Match All Offers For Hayward

Recommended Posts

Mark Bartelstein — Hayward’s agent — told The Tribune that the two sides "have good intentions," and that he looks forward to speaking to Lindsey in hopes of getting a deal done. Salt Lake Tribune

Sources tell The Salt Lake Tribune that the Jazz will tier the available free agents, have conversations and see where there is a common interest. But at the top of the priority list is Hayward, the best all-around player on the team. While the former Butler star will have significant interest on the market, Lindsey has said for two months that the Jazz plan to match whatever offer comes his way. Salt Lake Tribune

It doesn't look like the Jazz are bluffing.

Not surprised to see a rumor that they will match any offer for him. He's a good player. They are build a talented team, and keeping hold of Hayward helps them in that regard.

Trey Burke had a good rookie season, and they have just drafted Dante Exum who could play SG. They could form a decent backcourt duo. Hayward can play SG if they want to keep Exum on the bench, or he can play SF if Exum starts. Then they have Favors who can play PF or C. They have Kanter for C.

So they have some talented players to build around, and an ambitious new head coach. I think keeping Hayward will be good for them, but also good for other teams like us so we don't over pay him.

I dont want to overpay for anyone not an all star level today.

I am confused by the "good I dont want Heyward!" Guys.. Who then say we need to overpay for Deng, who is inj prone n 30... Lance, who avged 14 ppg and was THE major reason Indy collapsed n became awful toward the end of the season fighting teammates for personal numbers.

We gotta overpay for someeone! I just rather it not be someone 30 and we are stuck with that contract or a locker room cancer guy like Lance.

we need another shooter at sg/sf.

PJ has a NBA size body right now and could contribute a lot this year.

His time in the D League and this summer will really help him adjust.  I'm not

saying he's gonna light it up every game, but he'll be pretty good by the end of

the season, imho.

I think the other guy we need is a shooter at SF, sort of the opposite of MKG so we

can play both depending on the game situation

Really!?!? You blame Stephenson who was having a supreme amount of success until Evan Turner was acquired.

Not to mention the first game against the Heat, Stephenson and the Pacers went off... and guess who wasn't playing that game (spoiler: Evan Turner).

Anyone with an ounce of knowledge of the Pacers situation would understand that Turner was the reason that team self-destructed. It wasn't a coincidence that the Pacers declined as soon as they traded Granger for Turner and it wasn't a coincidence that Philly actually got better (as a team) after they traded Turner.

But you know..... facts..... who needs them.

This is a fact! Also no coincidence that the Pacers want Stephenson back, but make no qualifying offer for Turner. They don't want Turner because he is flat out terrible

    • The issue is the formula is secret, and it incorporates runs... So... Yup, it does. Same with PFF (which isn't quite as secret). But when it doesn't - like on Sunday - it's often to hilarious results. PFF is more reliable I think at matching my 'eye' test.
    • According to the talking heads of the sports world, this is a pretty meh QB class.  Sanders and Ward are the only two with first round buzz, but the rest are blah.  Take that for what you will. Let's see how Bryce does in year three.  That's just where we are.  Patience is the key here.  Players need time to develop.  They can't develop if they don't play.  Bryce has made some really good throws, but he doesn't look like CJ Stroud.  That's going to be his point of comparison the rest of their careers.  The ball doesn't explode off Bryce's hand, it's not a cannon ball shot out of a cannon.  He's not going to break a 70 yard run.   Bryce is going to have to continue to make good throws and make plays.  Part of that is going to depend on the play calls.  Part of it is based on the skill players.  A couple drops picked up yesterday and it's a win and Bryce throws 1-2 more TDs.  A completely different story. It's been a crazy year indeed.  I just want to see Bryce continue to develop.  To see XL become more consistent.  To see JT fully recover (not play this season if he's not healthy).  I want to see Coker continue to make plays.  I'd love to see Brooks get more touches and Chubba continue to hammer defenses. Then this approaching offseason, let's go back to the D and work on fixing it.
    • Prime is already gone boss.  Nothing left for team Sanders in college football.
