Should we just save our cash?

I have no idea how the NBA handles an amnesty, could we do that to hendo next year?

The amnesty clause allows teams to waive any player signed before the lockout (2011-2012 season) that is on their roster (only one player), and the salary for the player will not count against the cap. The clause will reset in 2016-2017 (Note: I can't confirm this anywhere, but it's been speculated and the CBA can be opted out of at this year). Read here.

We're not getting Durant.

He was an assistant GM. Didn't draft Durant.

We're in a win now mode. Why would we wait for next year? If that was the plan, we would've tank for Parker or Wiggins.

Chuck....you know I love you and we've had our debates.  Please read the thread thoroughly.  I never mentioned anything about tanking.  In fact I said the opposite.  I said that the Hornets are in a rare position because not only are we a playoff team, we have our nucleus returning, two good first rounders, and a good bit of cap.   If you can think of one player other then Lebron or Melo (either of whom won't sign here this year) out there in the free agency that is the difference between where we are now and a championship point him out and I'll eat my crow.

All I said was to save our cash, and in essence wait for the perfect time to strike whether it be next year or the year after.

In the meantime keep getting to the playoffs, keep winning more then losing, keep your cash, until finally Charlotte is a really attractive free agency destination.  That way the next time a big free agent is up for grabs we're the best place for them to sign and we'll be able to afford them to boot.

Getting a guy like Hayward at a 4 year 60 million dollar contract would put a restraint on what we can do in the future. He's just not worth that. I like Hayward and I think he's a good player but when it comes down to those type of deals, only two guys are available in free agency that are worth that and that is Lebron and Melo (Who, obviously will get more then that)

The only way Durant would sign here is if his other 19 or so teams ahead of Charlotte on his list couldn't. If he ever leaves OKC, it's for DC (his home), LA, NY, Chicago, a Texas team, etc. Not here, so just stop.

As for spending this offseason, agreed with the sentiment to spending some money this year, but wisely. Obviously we have to get to the salary cap floor, but after that don't hand out huge contracts, unless they're short term or on a guy that deserves it.

I said that. It just doesn't make sense for MJ and Cho to save money for next year. Obviously, they are trying to win now bc if not we would've tank for Wiggins or Parker.

I would not mind waiting till next year t spend but I don't think that's the case. We will spend.

I think we have a better chance of trading for Westbrook than signing Durant.

We could still sign a legit FA this year, and if Kemba doesn't improve trade him and Gerald both for a star next year. We gotta do everything we can now to keep Al after this new season tho.

And, next year FA is actually pretty weak based on our needs.

If we cant sign the guy we want... offer a solid player who can improve Center, SG, or top tier backup PG a big 1 yr deal. It can be used at mid-season as trade bait if we need or we have a player who helps us this yr and still have money open next yr.

IMO, there's no reason to think Charlotte isn't an attractive destination. We have a solid core of players (mostly young), we have a good coach, MJ owns the team, Charlotte is a great place to live, the Buzz is back, we made the playoffs, our outlook is positive, and we are trending upward. One or two solid players can make the difference, and I'm sure any free agent is aware.

Also, we have the money, and money talks. Until we are told by every FA that they don't want to play here, I will hold out hope and expect that we will sign a solid player(s).

When it comes to Al....trying to form superstar alliances on large market teams hasn't been his MO.  He signed with the Jazz.....then with us.  At this point in time....I'm pretty sure if you asked Al he would tell you the organization has been fantastic in regards to him.  He's really done more for his career here in Charlotte then anywhere.

I'd be all up for an extension for Jefferson this year....and I think he would too.

That said I don't think there is a team out there with a legit star that would take a Kemba/ Henderson trade.

We have a good team....now.  Why cash in a savings bond before it's matured?

Same question applies....what FA out there right now that we have chance to sign is the difference between 5th seed and NBA champ?  I just don't see one.

We need more than just solid. Most "good" players are not gonna sign a 1 year deal. They are looking for long term deals. 1 year contracts are usually for average - good journeymen imo.

No I agree. Would you rather make 10 million over 2 yrs or make say 7 million for 1 yr? With all contracts pretty much guaranteed it makes it more difficult to negotiate deals.

I'd feel better giving Nick Young a bigger 1 yr deal rather than long term looking at his history...

I know contracts in the NBA are guaranteed and all that, but players still like signing bonuses.
