Should we just save our cash?

I've been kind of leaning to this thinking as well.  Reading all these posts about Parsons/Hayward, I just don't get excited nor do I think either will take the hornets to the next level.  I'm not sure what the answer is this off-season because we do have a lot of young talent to develop, but Al isn't getting any younger.

Do you go for the 'big-splash' route and land 1-2 star guys?  Or 3-4 really good players that fill a niche and compliment each other well?

Glad I'm not in charge.

We have good players that fill niches spread all throughout our roster.  We won games  last season because of our depth and how many different rotations we could throw at teams through the course of our games.

To get to the next step....we need a star.

Well said, do you think Parsons/Hayward is that star?  Because I don't.

No,  I think they both qualify has slightly above average starters and great sixth mans in the NBA.  I wouldn't want to see either one of them matched up against Lebron though.  I wouldn't mind adding either one of them.....but not for the contracts they're projected to command.

I agree with the OP.  As others have stated, only Lebron and Melo are worth it.  I doubt we are in the top ten likeliest landing spots for Melo and I am certain we are not for Lebron so no sense in overpaying.  We are not the type of team that gets those type of players through FA...we need to develop our own and use the money we have not wasted to keep them.

I like the idea of savings space but we also need some upgrades to help us compete. As a small market team we can't sit back while everyone gets better. We learned first hand how hard it is to build through tanking and now Philly and Milwaukee are.

Not to mention we're still $8 million from the floor and if you don't reach the floor the NBA charges you up to the floor, so you might as well add some players instead of getting charged for nothing.

I'm fine with getting Henderson off the books, signing Stephenson, McBob, and our two point guards and calling it an offseason. That would leave us about an extra $5 mil to work with next year to re-sign our guys and sign a decent player with $10 mil in cap space.

I agree with about 90 percent of what you're saying.  I do think you leave out a critical variable and that's the progression factor.  We only have 4 players that appear that they've tapped out their potential.  Henderson, Jefferson, Neal, and McRoberts.  Kemba, MKG, JT, Zeller, Vonleh, Hairston, and yes even Biyombo are only going to get better.

Jeff Taylor  in particular is the X factor.  If everything is well with him it might eliminate the need for Hayward, or Stephenson.  If you really think about Taylor has the same skill set as Hayward except he's a better defender.

I want Stephenson as a replacement for Henderson. I feel like the shooting guard position has hurt us for too long now and it needs an upgrade.

I'm also perfectly fine with MKG and Taylor as the small forward combo.

Oh and for what it's worth, one of our reporters said he was watching MKG shoot baseline jumpers and he made 14 out of 15.

I like Stephenson too, I think our team could use a bulldog.  Is he worth getting in a bidding war with Indiana for and what results would his signing yield us?

One thing I am curious about is if we were able to dump Henderson's contract for nothing (i.e. non-guaranteed's), would we throw all our money at LeBron or Melo?

Outside of re-signing with their own team we could potentially offer the most money.

Then it that scenario you use the MLE on a backup point guard and re-sign McRoberts and Pargo since you can go over the cap to sign those guys.
