Hornets offered Henderson, 24th pick to Magic for Afflalo via ESPN insider

If I'm not mistaken, we also received cash considerations from Miami.

So, we cleared more room to go after a star this offseason. I could care less... If PJ pans out, Miami's "Big Three" don't have much longer to make a run anyway... I like Napier, but I don't think he will make that much of a difference. Honestly, I'm hoping LeBron still surprises everyone and leaves.

And this Duke/UNC crap couldn't be further from the truth, JJ. Maybe if you're talking about casual fans... As a proud homer of all our professional teams, and someone who attended one of the three big schools in NC, I could care less what school a guy came from as long as he can play. Henderson sucks. If we would've drafted Jabari Parker last night, I would've been ecstatic. If we would've drafted Rodney Hood, I would be sitting in a closed garage with my car running. If we would've drafted TJ Warren, I'd be hyped. And as it was, we drafted PJ, and I fapped all night.

It has nothing to do with the school... There's guys from my own school that I would be super pissed over if we wasted a draft pick on them. If the guy can play, I want him on our team.

The problem with Hendo is that he doesn't do anything really well. Very athletic, but inconsistent scorer/shooter... Now, there are plenty of slasher/ball handling two-guards that are inconsistent shooting as well, but the aforementioned attributes make up for it... Hendo has no other discernible skill that makes up for his inconsistent scoring... And funny how it worked out, that he "showed out" in a contract year and then gets paid and goes back to sucking and not showing up half of the time.

Everything else is conjecture... We got our scoring guard now, and possibly our go-to guy... I love it.

The Mod has spoken.

Pie.

Amen, LeBron might be the best player in the NBA but he cannot beat every team by himself or witb two and half players

He did two years in a row until San Antonio beat them this year.

MY POINT IS......That we shouldn't of made the trade with the Heat. Honestly at pick 24 I don't have any huge expectations from who we take, so I didn't care that much who we took. I wanted Early or Napier, but I am fine with Hairston, so long as he gets his priorities straight.

You can't possibly argue that the trade helped us. It was pointless and we should've just taken Hairston at 24. Houston would've likely grabbed Napier (They're going to trade Lin, so they'll need another PG) and Miami would be sitting on their asses at 26, sobbing and wishing they could back in time.

Also, I find it too coincidental that the two most hated players on Charlotte last year were McRoberts and Henderson, two Duke players. Sure Henderson wasn't a great starting SG, that's not his role. He is a 6th man/role player who started at position we were weak at. But it's not his fault he got 18 million over 3 years offered his way. There is no reason to hate him unless you are still letting your college allegiances get in the way of truely judging/accepting a player.

Now, needless to say I'm not calling you or anyone out for doing this. I'm just saying in general, UNC fans are very harsh on any Duke players at any level. Same the other way around.

Regardless, forget this thing about Henderson. Let's stick to the debate on the trade with the Heat, because that's what I'm talking about.

You can absolutely argue that trade helped us, since it allowed us dump Haywoods contract which gives us $2 million more in cap space this summer, that future 2nd probably wont be much but who knows.  And Houston took a foreign guy because they wanted to save money by not paying a 1st round pick, which they likely would have done anyways (they need to stay under the cap to have any hope of landing Lebron)

Nobody here hated Mcroberts, most people realized he was a cheap pickup who really helped the offense run.  Last summer most posters wanted to keep Henderson, but it became clear that we overpaid him.  Just because they are the easiest starters to replace doesnt mean people hate them, Henderson is particularly frustrating because of his inability to hit 3s, which cripples the team's spacing at times.

Bottom line, drafting Shabaaz doesnt change Miami's long term issues.  He may be an upgrade over the Mario Chalmers we saw in the finals this year, but he's not a better player right now.  I'd be shocked if Lebron was still there in 3 years

How did the trade help us dump Haywood's contract? We did that with the 2nd rounder we already owned....

Freed us up to trade that pick and use the other one to nab our 3rd string PG

We traded both picks. We used the pick from the Heat to draft Semaj Christian and then we traded him to OKC for cash

We used our own second round pick to dump Haywood. The trade with the Heat was one of the most pointless and stupid trades I've ever seen anyone make.

Not if you're MJ and you essentially made $3 million dollars off of it.

Number 24 was traded for #55, a 2019 2nd round pick, and cash considerations.

I guarantee you the Hornets probably received $2 mil in cash for that pick ($1 mil is the standard fair for selling picks) because we knew they wanted Napier. The Hornets then flipped #55 to OKC for more cash (presumably another million). While it doesn't look like much, that $3 million is huge because the team can use it on whatever they like except cap space.

We could've of just taken Hairston and let Houston take Napier and Miami would have no confidence they could bring Lebron back. We just helped our biggest rival BIG TIME. Do you realize how stupid that trade was? Out of curiosity would you guys rather have Hairston and Miami NOT have Lebron or would you rather have Hairston plus a 2019 2nd round pick and Miami have Lebron plus a better point gaurd?

So the signing of a combined 60 mil or so contracts for the Big Three all hinged on the Heat drafting...SHABAZZ NAPIER?

Do you really think LeBron would turn his back on the Heat just because they couldn't draft...SHABAZZ NAPIER?

And furthermore, is Shabazz Napier really going to help the Heat out that much? The only place they have any youth is at point guard, and a point guard on that team is useless because LeBron is the primary facilitator. On Charlotte, Shabazz maybe could be Kemba-lite. On Miami, he's probably a Norris Cole redux. They have more pressing issues in the frontcourt.

ESPN and the like want to drink the Kool-Aid because he's the undersized guard of a semi-cinderella UConn team and was the star of the tournament, that time when college basketball gets everyone's undivided attention, including LeBron's, apparently.

Regarding Houston, they were always going to go with a Euro-stash guy because they need to save their cap space for LeBron and/or Melo possibilities. Shabazz would have fallen to the Heat at 26 anyway. Instead, realizing his leverage with the spot he is in, Cho goes on the offensive and puts Miami in a bind because they feel LeBron has forced their hand. On the contrary, simply letting Shabazz fall to 26 without getting in the way would have truly been helping the Heat.

Hendo has some major limitations in his game. He is only effective when driving to the basket and getting to the FT line (which he is quite good at). Problem is that he doesn't fit in well when you have Big Al in the paint and a ball hog at PG.

Hendo should be the focus of the offense when the second unit is on the floor. He shouldn't be running with the 1s

    • Him and Sanders are the only QBs I would consider in the first round. I won’t be upset if we take Sanders, unlike some people on the board. Both have potential to be really good NFL QBs if the teams can develop them.  But as we have seen teams are not willing or are unable to now properly develop rookie QBs.
    • I remember the last time we had a Cam at QB in Charlotte
    • Because Young is so historically bad that it just skews too far outside the normal deviations that perspective is easily lost. That or they just don't want to believe it.  The struggles last year would have been more about the infighting and poor roster building or idiot owner's hiring practices than with Stroud. He wouldn't have been as good but he wouldn't have been ruined here and the pressure was not Carr-esk if you take out the Young created portion from his playing style.  Dude is a young guy on a team coached by a Defensive guy building a good D but not building up the O in year 2 of his HC 1st time gig. Seems familiar... Go look at his output this year and not just some crappy Thursday night implosion game, I would take that in a second and never ever look back every time without a shred of doubt while eating 4 of those games a year with a giant smile on my face.
