Would You Support a Lloyd Over Kasay Changing of the Guard to Open Up a Roster Spot?

After watching him today I would absolutely let him try a few field goals in preseason. Why not. We need to see what he can do in game situations. I would give Kasay as many as he wanted as long as it wasn't all of them. If something happens to Kasay either now or in the future, it would be great to have Lloyd come in. What about using him for beyond 55. I didn't think last year he was that accurate on the few times I saw him kick. I know nothing about kicking but he seemed to just take a step and 1/2 and kick it a mile. And they go straight without overkicking the ball and hooking it or pushing it.

Kasay should be the starter as long as he remains acccurate and so consistent. Lloyd is just a great insurance package who serves as a great kickoff weapon and maybe long field goal kicker. Wonder if he could learn to punt as well?

Actually he can. He did both field goals and punts in NFL Europe.

Kasay just needs to move on so I don't have to hear how he kicked the ball out of bounds once in his life and cost us the Super Bowl. That alone is worth it. I hate the thought of it, he's money from 55 yards in and always has been. But I'm tired of hearing how he cost us the big game. How many off sides did we have that game, holding calls, pass interference, going for a two point play instead of an extra point? Get over it, Kasay was never the enemy...

Kasay is nearing the end of his career but I'd like to see him around 1-2 more seasons. Now, would I ever want him to go back to doing kickoffs? HELL NO. He can't even get it past the 20 anymore. Lloyd is needed, Kasay is needed. The question is, who gets cut because of this? I've heard rumors about our rook FB. That would be a huge mistake.

You all saying Kasay's career is nearing the end, you may be right, but I think he has 4 or 5 years left in him as long as his drive is still there..

He hasn't declined at all.. Last year was one of his best years kicking.

I guess what I'm saying is: I disagree...

kickers have some of the longest careers in the NFL. Kasay has several years left to kick for us. i just want to see Lloyd start getting ready for taking over the duties. He's young and has a lot of time left to kick, and hopefully that kicking will include field goals....one day

Wow great question! I like giving Lloyd some chances in the preseason. How many times have we been burned being to loyal to older players. Don't get me wrong I really respect Kasey as a kicker but Salary Cap looms.

Getting burned usually deals with players who either aren't cutting it on the field or are injured majority of the season...

but I see your point on clearing cap space, although not sure it's worth that type of move at this point, or in the next couple years.. (unless Lloyd turns out to be as clutch as Kasay)

Yeah I should clarify, Kasey has always been a true pro and is always clutch. My point is we sometimes hold on to guys a year or two to long and that dang salary cap. Would keeping Beavers as punt returner, keeping a FB, TE, DL, LB, OL or DB be a better idea? Thats a decision I'm glad I don't have to make!

How many of them were involved in a half a dozen plays per game though? Without going through a list, I'd wager that they were guys who were out on each offensive or defensive series. That's a little bit of a difference. Placekickers have long careers mainly because of the number of plays they're involved in. They rarely get hit or make a tackle....we can afford an older player like this who does his job consistently...and Kasay does. How long do you think he'd last on the open market if let go? My guess is the time would be measured in hours, not days or weeks.

The fact that the fanbase hasn't had to endure an average kicker should not be overlooked. Most of the folks complaining about two events in Kasay's career have no idea what it's like to have a sub-par, or even average kicker.I love having Lloyd kickoff, but he's no Kasay in the FG department. If we replaced Kasay now, I don't think I could handle the complaining about missed FG's this year. It would make the Jake hating look like a party. No thanks, the dude is solid.
