Would You Support a Lloyd Over Kasay Changing of the Guard to Open Up a Roster Spot?

good question. IMO even though its taking up an extra roster spot we have to keep both of these guys. when the game is on the line i cant think of many more kickers that i would want in the game than kasey. and with the questions we have on defense this year the field positon that Lloyd can give us is gonna be very valuble.

one thing i would like to see the team experiment with in the preseason is letting Lloyd attempt some of the longer field goals. maybe every thing thats 45 yards to 50 yards plus. its seems like kasey has struggled a little bit from those distances as hes gottin older, Lloyd deff has the leg for these long attempts but im not sure how accurate he is.

Kasay is money ... unless its a windy december day in Giants Stadium, which is forgivable.

and didn't we just extend Kasay last year till hes like 44??

Kasay put that kick right down the center......no way for him to predict and adjust for the swirling winds that day. Smith won us a lot of games....but why the heck did he have to be so dumb that last drive and push Kasay back. :(

My perception? Lloyd isn't the "heir" to anything. He's a kickoff specialist. If/when Kasay gets replaced, there will be competition and one of the new guys might actually be good enough to do both kickoffs and fgs, thus saving a roster spot. Lloyd may develop into a guy who can do that and he is practicing (see reeders fri camp blog, point #7), but I think if he was good enough when we signed him, they would have let him have a couple of attempts last year in preseason. If he's shown improvement, maybe they'll let him try one this year. If they do, then we can start the speculation about Lloyd maybe replacing Kasay in the future. Until then he has to prove it to the coach's in practice first. I certainly don't see it happening anytime soon, nor do I want it to.

I agree with this... and if Lloyd is going to do anything along the lines of PK, then I hope he's putting in some major hours in practice..

Not this year. It won't happen until it's obviously needed. They have already accepted what our situation does to the roster. As for Lloyd, I'd definitely prefer him over a draft pick. I think it's common sense that Lloyd would at least get a shot at the job.

Lloyd might get a shot but he alraedy has plenty of experience as a FG kicker and he simply isn't on Kasay's level. If Fox is still here, I would think he would want a kicker w/ better accuracy given how important Kasay has been to Fox's teams. Lloyd is worth the spot now though.....I also would not be opposed to letting him come in for an extra long FG attempt in a favorable scenario in a game.
