Would You Support a Lloyd Over Kasay Changing of the Guard to Open Up a Roster Spot?

No way. If John Kasay wants to kick until he is 50, you let him do it. You never cut a man who has been so loyal and so clutch for us since our franchise's inception to make room for, what? A fifth string wide receiver? No way in hell.

Lloyd is the heir apparent and foxy needs to let him kick some in the preseason so we know whether or not we have a genuine option for Kasay's heir or if we need to do some shopping when he hangs 'em up. But no, you keep Kasay on the roster until his leg falls off

I agree for the most part. I feel like we have to let him retire a Panther. But, in my mind, the ideal scenario would be that if Lloyd was given a chance and he shows out, then the organization asks Kasay to go ahead and retire. B/c I don't want to see him play anywhere else.

But, I feel like we could be doing a lot more with the roster spot that we use for KOS. And on top of that, if Lloyd is the heir, then how long can we afford to keep him around as a KOS before he sees greener pastures?

When adding up the points that Kasay scores and the field position (with touchbacks) Lloyd gives us, they are a great 1-2 punch. I doubt that 54th man is going to produce as they will.

Agreed, but look at what Mark Jones did for field position and he was quite possibly the slowest return man EVER. What if Beavers or Robinson can do that and more? What if they're a threat to take it 25 or 30+ every time? Or maybe even score 2 or 3 TDs on returns. A KOS controls field position, and is a valuable asset, but he can't score TDs. Albeit, return TDs aren't that common, but that's where I'm having a problem.

but why would keeping a KO specialist again prohibit us from having a return man?

No, we need both of them because they're part of Fox's game plan. I know it's weird having a specialist for kickoffs, but having him on the team helps the defense a ton.

We have guys who can return punts, just so long as his name isn't Chris Gamble I'll be fine with it.

If Lloyd consistency and dependability I would support it. I would also support another place kicker all together. I'm sure I'll catch heat over this but, Kasey is consistent most of the time (ie. 2008 vs. Giants - missed kick that would give us home field). But I just cannot get passed the fact that he kicked the fuging ball out of bounds during a kickoff at the damn Super Bowl. I use to be comfortable when he came in to kick, but the last few years I cringe. Do I think Lloyd is the answer? No. Do I think we may need to start planning ahead? Yes!!

I guess it's a question of what you value more. In my mind, I think Fox values a KOS more. So, I'm saying if it came down to keeping a guy who's a gamebreaker as a returner vs. keeping 2 kickers, Fox would likely keep 2 kickers. I don't know if there's a gamebreaking returner on the roster right now, but odds are there is with all the speed and experience in returning (Goodson, Beaver, Lee, Robinson).

Goodson is safe, no doubt. But Beaver, Lee and Robinson could all contribute on offense as well. Beaver and Robinson could be a 4th or 5th receiver eventually. Lee or a guy like Fiammetta could be huge contributors later as well and be like projects. Now what if we let one of those guys go and have a division rival pick them up like they usually do and have it come back to bite us?

I don't want to let a dynamic guy go that could put points up on the board b/c we have to keep 2 kickers. So, if Lloyd learned how to punt, that would be awesome lol...

Foxy is too loyal to give Lloyd a tryout in preseason when it comes to someone like John Kasay.

Dude, please... can you be a little better about this kind of stuff?

If you have read anything about Lloyd, you would have heard how bad he is at FGs...

Let's hope he is practicing and improves...

But, dude, for real? Loyalty has nothing to do with the guy not being able to kick the ball through the uprights...

This is the kind of statement that gets me.. I'm not saying Fox doesn't have a loyal streak, but at least make a proper statement.

We might as well let Baker get in some FG kicks as well... That's the point I'm making, and it has nothing to do with loyalty.. At least address the issue appropriately.. :)

By doing this you are essentially trading points for field position. Lloyd is not as consistent as Kasay with field goals and would eventually cost us a game or two because of that.

Not worth it.

more like, he might get us a FG or 2 throughout the season... So yeah, I'm sure that equates to losing a few games for us..

anyone know where to read about Lloyd's FG experience. not doubting what is said. i'd just like to read it.

don't think much I heard came from articles.. Most of what I remember came from TC last year, and with the server getting hacked, I'm not sure how easy it would be to find those reports..

Rhys' stats from college:

Didn't kick FGs for Baltimore in the regular season, but did make a notable 55 yarder in a preseason game.

His college stats aren't very good, but I would imagine he's gotten better since being in the league. Interesting though, he also punted in college, just not very well.
