David Newton: Cam is earning respect

top dawg

To me Wilson is fake and arrogant. You can just look at the guy and you can tell he thinks he's the shiznit.

This is the epitome of just hating someone because you want to.  You do realize the "fake" argument literally never has substance, right? It's the same poo people said about Cam.  These people are celebrities and they have literally hundreds of thousands of people that have nothing better to do than try to pry into their personal lives and judge them.  But I guess some small thing he did in one of the hundreds of moments that he's had dozens of camera pointed at him made you conclude that he's fake and arrogant?  Well good for you I guess.

I went to State with Russell.  Never had a class with him but I did see him around campus quite frequently.  I ended up in an elevator with him once, a few days after State beat a heavily favored Pitt team.  Russell basically carried that game.  He converted a 4th and 26 with an insane scramble on a critical 4th quarter drive.  I asked him how he felt after making that play.  It was just me and him and 1 other dude in this elevator.  He said that he felt blessed to be lucky enough to convert on that play, and that he couldn't have done it without the excellent downfield blocking of his receivers and runningbacks.

Was he saying that because he gets off on appearing to be humble?  Maybe.  But I think he's probably just actually humble.

Oh and to respond to your other thing about seeing him on a mediocre team...we have.  He was on a crap team for 3 years at State and he carried us to 3 straight bowl games.  Not spectacular team results for sure, but he was obviously the star of our team.  Not really all that different from Cam until he got a team around him....

The heck is it with people believing Wilson is a below average schmuck?              Wilson is the 2nd best qb in the league when it comes to throwing on the run..  2nd only to Rodgers.     No one really remembers week 1 of last year?    Our Dline was blowing up their Oline on nearly every play..  Wilson would roll out, and just as one of our guys would get close to him,  to lay the big hit,  the ball would sail out and land right in the hands of an open WR.       Wilson doesn't have flashy numbers,  but the guy is legit.

OK, when I first saw David Newton's short little piece, like so many others this time of year, I just said "yeah yeah" and said it's barely newsworthy. But then I thought about it, and actually it's pretty damned good.

When your peers think highly of you, especially as an NFL player and QB, it means something. Not to mention that Cam Newton has legitimately made a great leap on the field from his rookie season, and a huge leap off the field regarding his leadership and maturity. Kudos to Cam!

Thank goodness that he is ranked higher than Kaepernick! Can I get an Amen?

[Now for the trolling part, which I never do]

And thank you, football gods, that he is ranked ahead of the demigod that is Andrew Luck. :P

Seriously, Cam deserves the ascension in regards to the respect of his peers.

Now, if only other NFL fans would stop "hating" on Cam due to historical Cam bashing by media sharks and pilot fish...

Continue to kill 'em, Cam!

usually when I see a thread start by u I'm like yeah yeah but I took the time to think about this. ...good thread I'm fuging with you.

Can't compare being on a crappy team in college to being on a crappy one in the NFL...

Can't take the list too wildly, if they have R. Wilson in the teens. So let's keep that in perspective. Though, of course I'm happy for Cam and he deserves it.

Newton's articles are pretty much always worth the read.

In general. But since a day or two after camp, just like many other pieces this time of year, he seems to be going through the motions just to get something out.  As you know, I post a lot of his stuff, but I have skipped over not only his stuff, but several articles this week. But, like you alluded to, he is a quality reporter.

I like the way he presents things and frames them with a general idea at times.

For example: He could have just said Newton is ranked 24th on the list (blah blah), but he framed it within the idea that Cam is "moving up the league in respect".  Of course I tried to spice it up even further by saying that Cam is actually earning the respect that he is due (in hopes of not getting the blah blah blah or "yeah yeah").  I achieved it today with Match.com at least () :)

Jesus the Wilson hate here is so unreal and biased...and uninformed.

Tell me outside of Marshawn Lynch -- who else carried Russel? Golden Tate? Sidney Rice? Oh let me guess, Percy Harvin, who was active all of one game? The only thing "stacked" on that offense is their o-line, other wise, their offense is not much different than ours. Just waaaaaaaaaaaaay more efficient.

And do you me he was carried by his amazing defense to the playoffs, because if you did well guys I have A Secret About How The Carolina Panthers Got To The Playoffs....

About his prsonality, who gives a fug? We all know Tom Brady is a douche but no one doubts him as a QB.

But this thread is about Cam, and his maturity. I wouldn't trade him for anyone, and no the leauge considered hi ma top 5 or 6 QB and he's only gonna get better. Great time to be a Panthers fan.

"Hating" seems to be one of if not the single biggest aspect of being a modern sports fan. It's what fans do. They sit online all day and hate on anyone or anything not related to their team. In many cases they hate on their own players or coaches just as much. To top it off they call everyone haters.

But it's good to see Newton getting that respect. Now we can stop saying everyone is out to get him.

Proud of Newton, glad he's our QB.

And for the fake Russell talk, it's BS, the guy really is a good dude.  Don't know about his wife and all that, but to blame a young man for a divorce before you have the details....

I have some friends that are pretty close to Wilson, and I have never heard a snide word about him.

Personally, I think that he and Cam are the best "young" QB's right now, and Seattle and Carolina are blessed to have them.

Seattle actually has a fairly bad offensive line. They are an above average run blocking but by some accounts the worst pass protection line in the NFL.

Ugh. Reading the comments on the Wilson article about the seahawks being better is miserable. Someone said something about Wilson destroying the Broncos defense. I had to reply that Helen Keller could destroy their defense.
