Arron Afflalo traded to Denver

Why trade Henderson and the 24th for this guy. I'm glad we didn't act.  Plus Afflalo probably wanted to go to Denver.  He's played their before and knows the city.

All this means is that we have a player we're going to nab at 9 that we feel can provide us with the same skill set as Afflalo.  No need to create a roster redundancy.  I think this means that if Garry Harris is there he's probably the guy.

It means they still have the #9 pick available to trade it for someone better than anyone projected at #9, unless someone like Marcus Smart falls.

for those who are questioning why he hornets didn't do more to get AA, instead of just blaming it on the incompetence of the front office, just think about it for a minute logically...

if, as is suggested we offered the #24 pick and hendo for him, orlando rejected the offer in order to open up additional cap space... why didnt we then just take away the hendo part of the trade? well then we would have $14m in money tied up in 2 SG's next year (i cant see many teams knocking down the door to pick up hendo's contract). this severely reduces our flexibility in free agency, where i personally think, there are even more exciting options to consider than (the very solid) AA.

hypothetically if we had just offered the #24 pick for him, im guessing that orlando would not be particularly keen to strengthen a division rival (also a similar reason why the bulls didnt get him for being in the same conference), as they must have aspirations to return to the playoffs soon, hence why denver got very lucky

The only way this makes sense is if Orlando is trying to shed salary for somebody(s). Fournier costs nothing, and the second round pick can be cut without any problem. No idea who they think they can lure there though.

Al Jefferson came here after our 21 win season. He might have come here because he saw a talented young core, and with him here we would become a winning team. Or, he came here because we gave him the best deal on the table.

The same goes for the Magic. They could have cap space for a max contract. They could persuade a star, or a borderline star to go there of they offer the best deal. Plus, favourable tax conditions and the weather could attract some. For example, that player could join the following core:

PG: Payton (#12) / Nelson

SG: Oladipo / Fournier

SF: Harkless / Harris

PF: Vonleh (#4) or Vucevic / Nicholson

C: Vucevic or Embiid (#4) / O'Quinn

Might not be a title contender, but there is talent at each starting position, and decent rotation options as well. Add a borderline star like Al Jefferson and the Magic could improve to the 30 win to .500 range if they are well coached and play well.

They are at a similar stage to we were last off season. A lottery team with talent needing to take the next step.

as an englishman, its kinda gone over my head the whole attractiveness of some locations to play in the NBA, so please forgive my ignorance here in asking, but why isnt orlando seen as a great place to play basketball? isn't it comparable to miami? would it be too far fetched to suggest that a franchise player that is touted as moving this summer (Lebron, Carmelo or Kevin Love) be interested in moving to the magic?
