I only skimmed the article and missed that part.

I just assumed it was like being a full-time employee like the NFL.

There are a lot of very talented football players, that do not make it to the NFL. These guys need a "Stepping Stone" league to the NFL... Look at Kurt Warner, he was bagging groceries...had there not been an NFL Europe for him to develop and be discovered, we would have never known "the greatest show on turf".

It also depends on where you live. I live in an area of North Carolina where the median income is about 24k a year per household. Making 50k a year means you could live very, very well.

52k a year isn't bad for one person.

the XFL never wanted to partner with the NFL, nor have any of the other leagues that have sprouted up and bombed out.

 

I think if the NFL would take this league and turn it into a farm system like NFL Europe used to be, but in America, then it could work.

 

Doing that and loaning out some of your PSquad players to these teams so they can get some game experience would be beneficial. not all PSquad players, but maybe 2-4 from each team that aren't as developmental as others and then fill the rest of the teams up with FAs

If they want to move teams to Europe so bad, then why not send the rejects.?

So if these guys don't make it in the NFL and don't have a degree that is worth something then why is playing semi pro ball for a grand a week bad? If they have a wife or partner that has some earning potential then they will be fine. You live within your means and don't buy Escalades etc. Pretty sure they would be okay with playing semi pro instead of making omlettes at Denny's. Even if it's not a full time job and they have to do something during the off season to supplement their income,then so be it.

I get enough pro football on Sunday, monday and thursday. I like college football on saturday nghts and I do attend local HS

 

games on friday night.......................I'm ok with not having football on tuesday and wednesday nights.

48000 a year for a six game season sheeeiiittt I would participate for that...that's prob a 2 month season...I played 12 games in highschool for nothing with an oline that should of been cheerleading getting rocked because I loved the game...not to bad IMO

Those statistics are eschewed due to single people living by themselves working at McDonald's/gas stations/ food lion etc...

My guess is that most people that have career on this site make over 52K a year and their job isn't near as dangerous as playing football for $1,000 a week.

I'm proud to say I've not caught on fire at work for almost a year now.

What's your question bud, if you're going to ask one ask one... don't best around the bush.

It's actually worse... you're risking your health for $6,000 dollars since it's a six week season and not to mention how many companies are going to let someone from their company take a month and a half leave of absence for a semi-pro football career.

I mean, these guys are presumably dudes without other careers that wont allow them to leave for a couple of weeks.

 

And isn't a 6 game season making $1,000+ per game better than longer seasons for no pay in high school and college?

 

Not to mention that it'd serve (more or less) as a gateway into an NFL career for some.

 

It allows them to follow their dreams even if they don't make the first NFL cut. I support that.

If you don't have a career, go for it and good luck but if you have a degree why not get a job that can support you.

I love the idea of seeing dreams come true but this seems very unrealistic. Realistically the CFL should be acting as a gateway to the NFL.

As for the college comparison, most athletes are getting support from the school (i.e. stipends and meal plans). I know every athlete complains about not getting paid and stuff but they are living better than most college students unless you're a college kid that gets a $100 dollar allowance a week from mom and dad (sadly I know a few people like this).
