I thought the purpose of a mock draft was to try and have a representation of what might actually happen in the draft and not run a fantasy 2k league.

Mock offseasons have always been done like this.

 

On the main forum there is a mock NFL offseason that features the draft, free agency, and trades. The only reason this one didn't feature the whole shabang was because it was spontaneous and there wasn't enough time to design a complete mock offseason.
