The word is 'Puto'. In Spanish this is a swear word. The meaning has changed through the years. In the early years in Mexico, it was a word to describe the gay community. In recent years, the word is used more for males that are promiscuous. Yes, basically guys that fug a lot. In this setting, in Futbol. The meaning is not to be homophobic. It is still a swear but the meaning is basically to say, "fugers!". Albeit it is a distasteful chant. It is not meant to be homophobic as FIFA says it is. If it was really meant to be demeaning towards gays, the correct word would be 'JOTO'. 

 

If FIFA does this, I can't say I agree.

Because if they don't the fans will do absolutely absurd things Darth. In Europe and around the globe fan violence is a serious problem. Racist chants can be heard all over Europe. There are Nazi only sections at AC Milan. Brazil does not allow the sale of alcohol in Football stadiums but FIFA actually strong armed them because Budweiser is a FIFA sponsor of the World Cup. Outside of the US, sporting events are very dangerous. Their only weapon is to hurt the team and then the team has incentive to hire more security, ban hooligans from buying tickets, and separate visitors from home fans. All of this is a big hassle but lives are at stake.

 

Sometimes FIFA will ban fans from attending a match. Say your favorite team is playing the home leg of the Champions league Quarterfinal. Good luck with your home field advantage, there are no fans in the building.

 

And Turkey tried an interesting new tactic. No men. Women and children only.

ANKARA, Turkey -- Turkey tried a new approach to curbing crowd violence at soccer games -- kick out all of the men, but let women and children attend for free.

 

 Under new rules approved by Turkey's soccer association, only women and children under 12 will be admitted to games involving teams sanctioned for unruly fan behavior.

 

 On Tuesday, Fenerbahce handed out free tickets and more than 41,000 women and children attended the game against Manisaspor in Istanbul. Women formed long lines around Sukru Saracoglu stadium, some carrying babies in the team's colors, for an opportunity to watch the club.

 

 Before the game, Fenerbahce and Manisaspor players tossed flowers at the fans. The visiting team was greeted with applause, instead of the usual jeering, the Anatolia news agency reported.

"This memory will stay with me forever," Fenerbahce captain Alex de Sousa said. "It's not always that you see so many women and children in one game."

 

 Manisaspor midfielder Omer Aysan added: "It was such a fun and pleasant atmosphere."

The fans were searched by female police officers.

"This really is a historic day," Yasemin Mercil, a female member of Fenerbahce's executive board, said before the game. "For the first time in the world, only women and children will watch a game. The women know all the chants. The same anthems, the same chants will be sung."

 

 In July, Fenerbahce was ordered to play two home games without spectators after its fans stormed the field during an exhibition game against Ukrainian champion Shakhtar Donetsk. Fans also attacked journalists for what they regarded as critical coverage of a match-fixing investigation involving the league champion.

 

  This week, the federation changed its rules to allow women and children at the games.

 

 "We have to thank the ladies for coming to support us," Fenerbahce defender Joseph Yobo told Lig TV. "It's difficult playing without the fans."

And it's not lost on me that it's a bit extreme in the case Ivan has presented. But it's typical bureaucracy. They come up with a set of guidelines on how to deal with unruly crowds and follow them regardless of the case.

Yeah, not sure where the 'N' is coming from. Maybe a native speaker can tell the difference between PUTO and PUNTO. Eh. 

 

Makes me wonder what FIFA will do. Its a bit absurd that they thing inebriated crowds will behave like Sunday school children. There will be some riled up crowds. In the Brazil vs Croatia game they were saying the same thing. Nothing will be done of course. We'll see what happens. I just hope the punishment for this is not severe. Getting kicked out for fans shenanigans will really make my blood boil.

You know what I find hypocritical? The fact that FIFA is making this an issue yet they give Russia the Next world cup...they know they are homophobic as heck.  Seriously FIFA?

Not just homophobic. Russia was accused of massive racism in 2012 Euros. FIFA is a joke, they sell out to highest bidder.
