That list is terrifying. At worst they all get made and DC supersaturates the market with crappy superhero movies and at best only some get made and we have to stick with DC's "gritty, realist" take on the same two or three characters and their origin stories they keep clutching on to for endless years to come.

Have there been any Marvel characters translated to shows? Just the SHIELD show and as far as I'm aware (only watched 1 episode) that doesn't have any actual Marvel characters.

Given the timing of this announcement, it kind of just feels like theyre trying to keep pace with Marvel presswise.

I think a live action suicide squad would be interesting. Would be a group of villains/anti-heroes marvel doesn't have on the big screen.

Suicude Squad would do well as an ongoing Netflix series. Not big screen.

The new information comes from THR, whose sources claim that Ryan Gosling  – currently exploring the idea of portraying a big-budget hero like Doctor Strange – is also being sought after by Warner Bros. to not only appear in the film, but lead it. Ryan Gosling’s name being tossed around as a potential superhero is nothing new, but with Will Smith, Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) and Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) also included on the film’s shortlist, any notions that Suicide Squad would be small-scale in any sense have all but evaporated.

Oscar winner Jared Leto is circling a key role in David Ayer‘s “Suicide Squad” that could prove to be The Joker, an individual familiar with the Warner Bros. project has told TheWrap.

Warner Bros. had no comment, while a representative for Leto did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are in various stages of discussions to star in “Suicide Squad,” which David Ayer is directing and Charles Roven is producing. Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise his role as Superman's mortal foe Lex Luthor, though no casting is confirmed at this time.

The cast of Suicide Squad has finally been revealed, and there are definitely some major surprises. For a start, Will Smith is going to play Deadshot, and NOT Captain Boomerang as was previously reported. Instead, that role goes to Australian actor Jai Courtney, someone fans argued was a much better choice for that character since his name first came up. Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg, Cara Delevingne is Enchantress, but the biggest news is arguably the fact that Jared Leto has been confirmed as The Joker and that Margot Robbie is set to play the fan-favourite Harley Quinn
