McRoberts turns down player option, will become Free Agent

Recommended Posts

how much does everyone think he will want to stay? according to hoopshype he has opted out of $2.77m next year. i thought he might be after something like 4 years/$15m? how high (or long) does the contract have to be before the hornets decide to cut him free?

So with McBob declining the option, here is what the current roster looks like.

PG: Kemba Walker ($3,452,183M)

SG: Gerald Henderson (6M), Gary Neal ($3,250,000M)

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist ($5,016,960M), Jeff Taylor ($915,243K)

PF: Cody Zeller ($4,030,560M)

C: Al Jefferson ($13.5M), Bismack Biyombo ($4,086,453M), Brendan Haywood ($2,000,000M)

The cap for the 2014-15 has risen and is expected to be at $63.2M meaning the Hornets would have $20,948,601M in cap space.

Realistically we need a starting caliber shooting guard and power forward as well as a back up small forward and back up point guard.

Which I do not think is unreasonable.

$5M per for McRobertson wouldn't be unreasonable, especially if you're no longer paying Henderson's $6 per, but there's no reason to sign McRobertson to that if you're going to draft a PF, which they shouldn't, even if Randle falls.

There is reason to carry two young power forwards unless you trade Zeller, which would be foolish unless you are packaging him up with other players to acquire a big name player.

I am tentative to re-sign McRoberts because I don't know if he can get any better than he already is. He's a solid player but the way the team is currently built, we need a power forward that plays the same type of game as McRoberts but is a better scorer.

Pau Gasol is a option but he's old and plays no defense.

I can't remember who brought it up, but I'd love to acquire Thaddeus Young from Philadelphia.

Maybe something around Henderson and #24 for Thaddeus Young and and #32.

Remember the last time he signed here he took less money bc he felt like is was really wanted here. Jordan has expressed over the season how important he was to the team so I don't think we have to be the highest bidder.

Philly would never do that, unfortunately.

We are also most likely stuck with Henderson's 6 million a season.
