Carolina Panthers Give LT Nate Chandler a 4 Year Extension

Yeah but they could just really like Chandler as a RT and want to lock him up long term. In no way does it mean Bell is expendable nor does it mean Chandler is designated the LT. It just means that Chandler earned a new contract, and good for him.

Part of me wonders of this means that Chandler is looked at as the long-term solution at left tackle but another part of me wonders if they're going to put him on the right side this season before moving him to the left after Bell's contract is up (who is on a one and done deal, correct? I'm not sure)

So our two starting tackles are gonna cost us around $4 million this season and across from them, our DE's gonna cost us close to $30 million.  But that will soon change after we drafted Kony and then locked up Addison.  The DE's will enjoy one more season together.  Hoping Gman does not hint on which one might be heading elsewhere, that way, they both play lights out this season.

Great for him. I like us trying to keep Addison a few more years as well. I don't know why we gave Colin jones an extension because I don't see us keeping him over Lester and Boston and I'm sure we won't keep 5 safeties even though Jones is a special teams ace.

Didn't read all posts so I hope this isn't repetitive:

Here is what we know:

1. Gettlemen did not go after a T in the draft, instead, he targeted RG.

2. Gettlemen often says, "Sometimes the answer is on your own roster."

3. Addison and Alexander were in contract years and fighting for the 4th DE job.  Addison has been extended. Alexander is on a 4-game suspension.  Looking bad for Frank.

Giving Chandler a 3-year deal at a bargain with limited guaranteed money is not a risky move, but the timing of the deal is significant.  Why now?  He is about 50% cheaper or more than he would be at the end of the season after starting for a year.  They are betting on his success, which means they feel good about it.  I do not think it means anything about Bell, however.  Chandler is the only T who is pretty certain to start on one side or the other.

I believe in nate, just hope the tackle on the other side isn't a complete liability

Well stated.  I think we had to look at the off-season this way:

We had 3 glaring needs-RT, RG, and LT.

I think Chandler is the next LT, so he is a question mark they obviously feel good about.  Turner is solid at RG, and if he can hold down the job there, WIlliams and Bell will fight for the RT job.  If Williams can win the job, we know we upgraded at 2 positions on the right side.

I am not optimistic, but we have a good OL coaching staff.  I think our WRs are going to be significantly better (most people disagree, but we have some sure-handed pros and a young stallion who can easily beat last years stats).  We get Stewart back and upgraded at TE.  Our D is going to be scary and our offense will be average with a few playmakers.  I can live with that.
