CBS Sports: What can the Hornets do at #9?

Long article: http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/24588626/draft-options-what-can-the-hornets-do-with-the-no-9-pick

Talks about all the guys we've mentioned in here numerous times (McDermott, Stauskas, Young, Harris, LaVine), adds in Marcus Smart. Also brings up a potential trade of Henderson, the No.9, and the No. 24 for Aron Afflalo, Andrew Nicholson, and a future second-rounder.

Just some reading material to pass the time.

Other than the Aaron Afflalo part, I agree with him on most everything else. Been saying much of myself, although if I drafted Marcus Smart, it would be with the intention of him mostly playing PG. If he's a better long-term prospect than Kemba, then so be it. I wouldn't even be opposed to trading Kemba now depending on what you could get back. Would much rather have someone like Exum or Smart, anyway, lol. Same with MKG. I don't think the Hornets hae to be committed to anyone but Al Jefferson right now.

McSlowfoot is more likely to bust than not, and Nik Stauskas ain't the guy. I've never wanted LaVine, and definitely don't want Randle, either.

People love the Draft because it's like a game show, or gambling, but I'd rather see the Hornets go out and pick up some guys via free agency or trades, if they can't trade up.

Marcus Smart would be my #1 guy @ #9 but I can't see the Lakers passing on this guy.

Gary Harris is the safest (though not the most exciting) pick @ #9 imo. He is a smart player that is quite good offensively and defensively.

I'd be content with Smart, Harris, LaVine, Gordan, Stauskas, Randle and or even Hairston @ #9, but If I had to bet I say the Hornets end up taking Gary Harris or Aaron Gordan @ #9.

...and I dunno about Orlando fans but Henderson, #9 & #45 for Affalo & #12 sounds fair to me.

I think we are really high on PJ Harriston. We have worked him out a lot. I would love to get him with the 24th pick but not the 9th. I would love to get the PF from Indiana I think his name is Vonleth? Him or another top PF. I believe PF is what we need the most followed by SF and SG but I'm sure we will get a SF in free agency. I would love for us to trade up to get Jabari Parker but I'm sure it's a pipe dream.

    • Fans are fed up with this organization's endless string of failures. And, while Morgan's less than a year into his current position, everything he's done is barreling down the same path shat out by his predecessor. If we're just pointing out this alarming lack of discrepancy between the performances of two GMs, it's really not hating. He's just proving to not be a good hire. And, hey, it's alright, because whoever Tepper hires next will, at best, only suck a little bit less. I don't mind people who are optimistic and hope Morgan turns out to be better than he's been thus far. That'd be great. None of us are rooting for him to fail. However, the embarrassing pattern of decisions persists. And it's not a good look.
    • You have to view everything that was done in 2024 through the ‘eliminate excuses for Bryce Young’ lens IMO. It only makes sense that way.     If you allow for that, you will see that Diontae fulfilled his purpose.
    • The Panthers' beat writer called the Johnson trade return "a warm bottle of RC Cola." If you're quick to discount every bit of news that disagrees with your view, maybe your view is the problem. Morgan deals himself a bad hand and he deserves every bit of criticism for it. Fitterer was the worst GM ever, but Morgan is a very similar brand of awful. Certainly when it comes to trades since 2021, Morgan's body of work makes him at best, only one of the worst negotiators in the history of North American professional sports. That's simply pointing out the numerous shortcomings he's put on display. If I point at a guy who shot someone and say "he murdered a guy," I'm not hating on him -- I'm pointing out what he did. If Morgan wants to not be labeled an incompetent clown who makes 31 other franchises better, simply stop being an incompetent clown who makes 31 other franchises better. Or, wait until Tepper makes him the fall guy after Evero.
