Best pure hitter in my lifetime and by all accounts a great person.

Chewing tobacco took his life at 54 years old. Sad.

Very sad given he was only in his 50s. I admired him when I was very young and didn't really appreciate what he accomplished until later in my life when I realized how hard it was to accomplish what he did.

RIP Tony...unreal how great of a player he was and from what I hear, he was just as good off the field as he was on the field.

 

CSN Philly just did a father / son article about Tony and Tony Jr and posted it yesterday for Father's Day....it's sad to read knowing he died hours later.

Wow, I grew up watching this guy play.  Him and Ripken were some of my favorite players during that time.  He played the game the right way, and was classy.  He was a great pro.  His stats are insane, 8 batting titles, 15 all-stars, career .338 hitter with like 3100 hits.  Good luck finding that again.  And he stayed with his team his whole career, like Cal did.
