Carolina has almost $19M in dead money on the books

The Jon Beason contract was so bad. I mean the guy was coming off injury. What was Hurney thinking.

He wasn't.

CJ, Kalil, Beason, DWill, Stew, Godfrey, etc.....

At least CJ and Kalil can play, and they play at highly valued positions.

This whole dead money thing is crap. If they're not on our roster, then they shouldn't count against us

If that were the case, teams would cut half of their team every year.  Being responsible for contracts is what keeps the stability in the NFL.  Every team has to abide by it, so it just means you need smart management.

The cap situation is the whole reason for drafting Ealy... Can probably say goodbye to either Hardy or Johnson at the end of this season, as long as Ealy pans out... Replace their 13-16M with Ealy's 2M-ish, and free up another 12M or so in the long run...

Knock the 19M in dead money off the books... Hardy's 13M (just for example)... Williams and Stew's (guessing) 12-18M...

Next thing you know, we're looking at having 50M in space to sign our young'uns...

That number would have been higher had we did what everyone thought we would do--cut Godfrey.  Not many people realize what a win-win that was.  We reduced the cap hit, didn't create more dead money, and kept the player at a bargain price.

Gettlemen may not be popular with the players (for reasons like this), but I am glad he is our GM.

I cannot wait to see him work when the dead money is normal and he has cap room.

all that money coming off is going to lock up cam and keek, maybe hardy idk.

cam and keek are going to be major deals, we'll see how the contracts are structured to see if we have some wiggle room, but those guys are "have-to" contracts.

so all that cap room that is freed up shortly will just be locked back up quickly. but at least it won't be on aging, devalued, injury prone positions.

Hurney cut Steve Smith and traded Beason?

Gettleman had no choice but to do away with Beason due to his outrageous contract and injurie, and due to the fact that he didn't want to play here unless it was in the middle of the defense. So how about you get your facts straight.
