Would you want this much Science and Technology in Football?

only if it is perfected....which should take some time.

also they should have the refs wear camera helmets like they do in rugby now.

I haven't figured out why they haven't put cameras on certain players in the preseason. That would just be great to wear Google Glass while watching the game and being able to see what Luke is doing.

Footballs are swapped out dozens of times during a game. It's not like you only get one.

In the IT field, we call it hot swapping.

And when it stops in the middle of a play?

You gonna have the refs blow the play dead because the ball stopped reporting?

Adding this kind of technology rarely is without issues and forecasting them accurately is about as easy as turning lead into gold.

Jesus Christ, are you an idiot? It's a tool, much like a hammer, where it's used when needed at not relied upon for every bit of information.

For those opposing technology, I hope you never say 1 damn thing about a ref blowing a call.

Nice straw man.

The overwhelming majority of blown or incorrect calls are penalties based on judgment, which are not merely correctable by electronically tracking the ball - roughing the passer, helmet to helmet, pass interference, unnecessary roughness, etc - or straight up judgment calls, like maintaining possession. Also, it is extremely rare that a TD call is incorrect because the ref erroneously thought it crossed the plane, or vice versa. Sure it happens, but that blanket statement you made really bugged me. Even if you meant it as hyperbole, it comes off as conceited.

Some technological advances will marginally help fix calls, but you are grossly exaggerating how much.

All you technology fanboys, go watch the movie iRobot. It may be a movie but it is very true. Once you're done watching, then read the series of books it's based off of.

I don't think the football is at risk of developing a positronic brain

Personally I'm all for this if it's accurate and doesn't slow things down. How many times in short yardage situations does the guy with the ball end up on the bottom of a pile? The ref can't even see the guys arms much less where the ball is. Throw in the fact that the guy with the ball is trying to wiggle forward and it's a wonder they can even get the spot close.
