Would you want this much Science and Technology in Football?

Recommended Posts

So...all these fabulous ideas for using technology come down to ball placement, and side-line markings. Wow, I wonder what the future will hold?

No.. But its the next one.

I respect your negativity though. The game of football has been adapting to the current technology since its inception, and it has no reason to stop. It doesn't necessarily change the game but it helps define the better team of the two.

Hey, I have no problem with technology per se. I just don't see how it can enhance the game of football.

Was the runner's knee down? Was it a catch, or did he bobble it? Was the QB in the grasp? All sorts of judgment calls happen in the game.

Between judgment calls, and rules, I don't see how technology can help with those.

I just don't see where there are enough places for technology to merge with the game. If it happens, I hope it works. Cuz this game is great. It does not need to be improved upon, just to add improvement.

Wow, nice rebuttal.

Referee's are a part of the game. Just because us real football fans don't want more technology added to our game, does not mean we hate technology. Adding technology for no apparent reason is just silly. And only the silly would want it implemented.

Also, football games are long enough already. Let's go ahead and add an hour so that fans like you will know with undying certainty that every fugging call was dead on balls accurate. Cuz you know, the world revolves around the refs getting every call right.

Football is a game played by humans, and refereed by humans. We have enough technology as it is. Leave the game alone.

It wouldn't add an hour to the game. What the hell are you talking about?

Well...since you asked so nicely.

KK was going on and on about wanting to get every call right using technology. So...it only stands to reason that in order to do so would add time to an already long game.

Did you even bother reading the thread? Come on now. I know you have something up there itching to get out. Please, give us your ideas on how to improve the game through technology.

Again, your idea of adding an hour was already a disproved. I also like how you went for the personal attacks calling people "geeks". Sorry your darned flip phone just won't get a signal, dem satellites must be actin' up again!

But seriously, why the negativity? Teams are already adapting to no longer using paper playbooks and instead using tablets. Did they need that technology? No. Paper worked just fine. But it helps with speed and accuracy or displayed information.

Teams are putting sensors on players to test speed and endurance and impact. Do they need to? No. But it's called being ahead of the curve.

Technology is a part of our world, thus it will be part of the game. Baseball took forever to adapt, and look where they are now. The lowest attendance rate in years.

Adapt or die.

I would think this technology would be instantaneous and therefore cutting down the time of the game. Instant replay with officials takes much longer than an instant notification the ball crossed the plane.

That's what I said earlier. It would be immediately displayed. How that would "add an extra hour", I actually have no idea.

Also, you brought up the idea of sensors in helmets. It would be cool to have something like a small GoPro personal camera in the helmet to have up close, first-person shots of action on the field.

It's only common sense. Not much of that around here though.

But that does not take into account if the runners knee was down before the ball crossed the plane.

The game is about rules and judgment calls. I don't see how technology can improve either one.

Bobbled passes, did the ball hit the ground, was the knee down, was it a fumble, and other things that technology cannot interpret. Instant replay is a pain. But it is the best we have right now.

None of that impacts the actual playing of the game. Which is what the thread was actually about.

No one has brought up one feasible aspect where technology can improve the game.

Personal attacks? You asked me what the hell I was talking about. Very civil of you. But I guess you don't count that? I am so sorry your sensibilities were hurt. Damm these message boards.

Actually that was me. But it would honestly if anything cut down on the time of the game. Spotting the ball would be instantaneous. Replay's regarding the spot of the ball would be pretty much over.

And besides. If for whatever reason in any universe it somehow were to make the game longer, then who cares? If it keeps the refs from cheating my team out of the game then hell yes make it longer.

I give you:

Every regular season Panthers vs Dallas game since 2005, Panthers vs Bills 2013, Panthers vs 49ers 2013 playoffs etc..

Yeah, um, that wasn't me bro. I'm actually trying to have a civil conversation.

These same people who refuse technology in a game seem like the same people who think the Bible has all the answers they need.
