Would you want this much Science and Technology in Football?

Recommended Posts

They aren't mutually exclusive. Society is continuing to advance. Imagine society 50 years from now. How far along in technology they will be. Football is included in society. The NFL too will be advanced. They have to and will start advancing in technology at some point. They should start now. They can't keep in their old ways forever.

Use your brain and think instead of typing dramatic nonsense as usual.

NO sport other than soccer as someone pointed out earlier uses technology.

Referees, umpires and officials are apart of the game.

Using technology to improve the world is a great thing.  Using it to improve sports is a waste of time.   Wanna improve sports.  Improve the way we see it.  Stadiums are doing that and I am all for it.

Dramatic nonsense???? hahahahahaha really funny.  You should take your show on the road.   As USUAL if someone disagrees with you.  You attempt to belittle them with you little sarcastic comments. Than then when someone follows your lead and gets sarcastic back.  You try to call them out because you don't like their opinion.

Get a life, just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they know less of the game, less of a fan, or less knowledgeable than you.

Otherwise I am done with this trivial argument because you are in attack mode instead of civilly discussing it.

Improving sports with technology is a waste of time? Did you actually type that? lol

It's not my fault you have an inferiority complex. You get easily offended in a debate and instead of discussing the topic, you talk about how much your feelings are hurt. I have no time for this type of convo.

Anyway, sooner or later, more likely later, the NFL will get more advanced in technology. Then you can complain about how much things are changing and ruining football by getting calls correct with their "evil technology".

Typical KK. Dismiss an opinion when it doesn't fit your line of thinking.

You brought up the "In the future" sh/t. So I made a comment on it.

Bringing added technology to a game that does not need/warrant it is just silly. No wonder you are all for it.

If you have an actual plan for bringing technology to the NFL. You should just submit it to the head office. I am sure they will take it under advisement. Otherwise, be prepared to have them herp de derped at on here.

Typical response from someone who has nothing to add. You, or someone, derailed what I said by talking about cyborgs. I can't call that out?

So using technology to know when the ball crosses the goal line is silly? Knowing if the ball actually got a first down is silly? Using technology to help refs is silly?

I think the only thing silly is you thinking it's silly.

If you can bring in technology that replaces refs, then go for it. Until then, refs are, and will continue to be, part of the game.

Players make mistakes. Refs make mistakes. Oh no, let's add technology.

So you're fine with bringing in technology to replace refs. Ok then, but you have to realize that it has to have a starting point. It's not going to be like a sudden boom 1 year in the future where the NFL has all this technology to use all at once. It has to start at some point and develop.

Really???  What has actually been changed outside of technology improving safety which of course I am for.   The rest, in any sport, really?  Baseballs are digitally monitored so the strike is called as it crosses the plate.  Hmmm sensors on the toes of shooters so three points can automatically be detected.

Inferiority complex?  Where in our conversation did I say you were less of a fan of football?  Yet, you as normal, trivialize others opinions so you can seem so knowledgeable.

Come on Mr. Gadget tell me all the additions to sports through technology?   OH wait... The clock can do 100th for a second.  Wow forgot that one.

Get a life, know WTF you are talking about.

Because you assume it will always work, or more specifically work in your favor.

What happens when the sensor in the ball quits working?

Or

What happens when the sensor in the ball is proven to be less than 100% accurate?

Or

What happens when someone compromises the signature of the ball?

Or

What happens when the sensor in the field is damaged?

We have decades of "good enough" to stand on. Leave it be.

Footballs are swapped out dozens of times during a game. It's not like you only get one.

In the IT field, we call it hot swapping.

FIFA implemented this same technology during the World Cup. So, there?

Also, video review technology. Things like the ice gloves the seahawks wear.

I believe I mentioned earlier outside of Soccer.

One out of five major sports has one thing. Hardly a wave of the future.

I am of the opinion that the human element of officiating is part of the game.  I don't see a need for changes to something that works just fine.

We have instant replay and I believe that is as far as it needs to go..

Technology implementation in the football is inevitable and to be honest, I'm surprised they haven't done this yet. Being an electronic engineer, there are easier ways to locate the ball at a certain time marker or real time (compared to how they describe it in the article). Plus, the sensors would have to be at both tips of the football and around the entire circumference in the middle of the football to successfully detect the (true) progression of the ball.

As I am writing this, I just had a glimpse of the future... Imagine a running back carrying the football and as he advances forward, the ground lights up showing the real time advancement of the ball... (its a bit Maddenish i guess)

Whenever the smart football will be implemented in the NFL, the televised games will benefit the most, at first at least. They will most likely have a real time ball advancement marker/line (that would instantly follow the ball progression) along with the line of scrimmage and the first down line.

So...all these fabulous ideas for using technology come down to ball placement, and side-line markings. Wow, I wonder what the future will hold?

200 years from now? 20 years from now? C'mon guys, I gotta know.

Yupperz, not much is going to change. Want to know why? Because football is a game of rules. Technology cannot interpret rules. It may do a few menial chores like...well not much more than it already does.

LOL at the geeks who want to change football so they can have their precious technology. They don't know how, or what to change. But by golly we are going to have change.
