Would you want this much Science and Technology in Football?

Recommended Posts

Yeah because you are the only one with a brain? lol

I love how you dismiss other folks opinions so readily. Must be dangerous living on that high horse. Watch out for low hanging branches though. One head injury and you will be as brain-dead as the rest of us.

When players have jet-packs, then maybe technology will be needed. Until then, the refs, with a little help from their friends, are enough.

I love how the advancement of technology in the NFL is met by "Oh then what do you want next? Cyborgs playing football so theres no injuries. Hurr Dee Durr"

We already have instant replay. That is more than added time to the game. We don't need to add technology to find the spot of the damm ball.

You are expounding on the virtues of technology. Pray tell me how you plan to implement such futuristic concepts into the game.

Equating scientists with football? Careful, you will pull your arm out reaching for a valid point.

Can you not realize that the advancing technology in the NFL will eventually make refs rely less and less on instant replay?

Instant replay is a miniscule thing compared to the other advancements the NFL can implement and will implement in the future. All that it's doing is replaying the previous play. That's not really that far advanced.

Having reliable technology in the game will only improve the calls. Eventually to the point where they are almost always correct. But to get to that point, there has to be a starting point.

Typical KK. Dismiss an opinion when it doesn't fit your line of thinking.

You brought up the "In the future" sh/t. So I made a comment on it.

Bringing added technology to a game that does not need/warrant it is just silly. No wonder you are all for it.

If you have an actual plan for bringing technology to the NFL. You should just submit it to the head office. I am sure they will take it under advisement. Otherwise, be prepared to have them herp de derped at on here.

If you can bring in technology that replaces refs, then go for it. Until then, refs are, and will continue to be, part of the game.

Players make mistakes. Refs make mistakes. Oh no, let's add technology.

Wow, nice rebuttal.

Referee's are a part of the game. Just because us real football fans don't want more technology added to our game, does not mean we hate technology. Adding technology for no apparent reason is just silly. And only the silly would want it implemented.

Also, football games are long enough already. Let's go ahead and add an hour so that fans like you will know with undying certainty that every fugging call was dead on balls accurate. Cuz you know, the world revolves around the refs getting every call right.

Football is a game played by humans, and refereed by humans. We have enough technology as it is. Leave the game alone.

How would it add "an hour"? If anything, it would make the game more efficient and faster. No more reviewing where the ball is, no more looking under a hood for fifteen minutes.

Broadcast to the jumbo screen the GPS location of the ball. Done.

Also, seeing robots play in the future would be awesome.

Spotting the ball is one thing. Except the football is oblong. Where do you put the sensor? Make the whole ball a sensor. Then the ball is funky. I see the objective, but the execution is iffy.

for that matter, you could put sensors on the player's shoes and know if they stepped out of bounds.

This is not a bad idea.

These two ideas have merit. But KK wants to make sure all the calls are correct. How is that going to be a possibility? Refs are not going to be replaced any time soon. Which means mistakes are still going to be made. Reviews are still going to be made. Technology is not the answer...yet.

How would the ball determine when someone's knee was down? The ball always ends up past the goal line or 1st down marker just not necessarily before the runner is down. How can it tell if it is in the runners possession? I'm not sure this would really help much in comparison to something like soccer. Maybe their would be some instances where it might work, but it seems pretty limited.

As a professional technologist (two plus decades in IT)...

Hell fuging No!

Tech is not the answer.

The game needs to remain in the "human realm" and not be reduced to a series of digital calculations.

Can you give me a reason why it should stay in the human realm? I kinda want to know for a fact if he crossed the goal line on 4th and goal.

This should clearly be implemented. I don't understand why anyone would oppose this other than we don't like change and want to stay safe inside our box.

Because you assume it will always work, or more specifically work in your favor.

What happens when the sensor in the ball quits working?

Or

What happens when the sensor in the ball is proven to be less than 100% accurate?

Or

What happens when someone compromises the signature of the ball?

Or

What happens when the sensor in the field is damaged?

We have decades of "good enough" to stand on. Leave it be.

Wow, I bet you oppose cell phones, internet, tv, radio x and birth control because we haven't always had those

You know you CAN have too much technology.

So what happens (Like Rickson says.) if the beeper goes off indicating a TD. But the runners knee was down? Technology can't help with that.

Technology has its place. Just not quite yet for the football field.
