Just Some Melo / Barnes Rumors

Barnes is terrible. Can people please stop talking about this guy? He was bad last year, had a decent playoff series against a very favorable matchup, and then was bad this year. He's not going to flip a switch and live up to his high school hype all of a sudden- he's just not very good.

You must mean "very favorable matchups" since Golden State played both Denver and San Antonio last year, and he played well in both. Everyone recognizes Barnes' "potential," which is what all of this is about. Barnes is still in the same stage of his career as the 2014 draft class is, but he's had a chance to show flashes in real NBA games.

His main problem in Golden State is he only gets 6-8 shots a game, because Curry, Thompson and Lee are going to chuck it up close to 60 times a game between the three of them. A guy with his offensive reputation would've been getting 12-16 shots in Charlotte had they drafted him. When he gets more shots he tends to produce

Him being around MJ could be good or bad for him. If he doesn't mind the pressure that MJ would put on him (because Michael knows that Barnes studied his tape when he was growing up and tried to model his game after his because his mother was MJ's "biggest fan"), then it could work out, because his problem is that he is passive-aggressive. He tends to pout, and sulk, and then disappear if he determines that the situation around him is "stupid" or counter-productive, instead of having the mindset that he is just going to go out there and get his like it's a pickup game no matter what anyone else is doing. That's what he'd be hearing from MJ. If he didn't listen to Jordan, then there's no hope for him. I think Charlotte could be the best thing to happen to Barnes, because if he can't succeed in Charlotte, it should be clear to him and the rest of the league that he can't succeed anywhere. Right now, he's probably figured out that his stats are affected by being the 6th to 8th option on a team behind guys that have a green light to chuck it whenever they feel like it.

His second problem is not his "ball handling." It's the fact that he's not "strong with the basketball." He's weak and tentative, and isn't comfortable handling it. Jordan wasn't a great ball handler, but he was comfortable with it in his hands. That's what matters the most. MKG is not a great ball handler, but he's strong with the basketball, so you're still not going to take it from him. Any player can get to that point, including Barnes. You don't have to be Pete Maravich at SG or SF, just comfortable handling it. I'd rather have Barnes at SG and Hayward at SF, but if they had Barnes and MKG, that could work as well, then let Jordan and Pippen get in the gym with them and teach them a few things, and again, if they fail after that, then it'll be clearer than ever that they just weren't good enough.

#9 for barnes could possibly be the stupidest trade proposal I have ever heard. And I was a Bobcats fan. I'd be willing to bet GS would take #24 for Barnes. Might have to throw in #45 too but still #9 is fuging retarded honestly

It only makes sense under the scenario I presented, where they get in on a three team deal with Minnesota, where they end up with Barnes and Minnesota's #13, while giving #9 to Minnesota in return along with another player going to either Minnesota or the other team.

Why do you keep creating these horrible defensive teams??

Do you remember who our coach is??

Clue

He likes defense a lot.

I swear people overact so much. It's basketball! Not football. You need good defense but at the end of the day you gotta have offense.

Our HC likes defense a lot. We're already pretty damn good defensively. Why did we get swept by the Heat? No OFFENSE!

Barnes and Melo are not going to kill our defense.

We were pretty good last year not bc of our defensive players, but of Clifford's style: a slow paced offense that likes to defend on the other end.

The team was near last in the NBA defensively when MKG wasn't on the floor. Close to first with him on the floor... Just saying. I've posted the stats already on another thread.

I don't know how I feel about Barnes. He is such a horridly inconsistent player.

he'll be more consistent with us, where he'd be a starter. He said in an interview a while back he had a blow to his confidence when Iggy was signed to Gs Because He Thought He Was Going To Be The Starting SF of the future after his stellar playoffs the year prior

So:

GSW: Kevin Love

MN: no9 pick

CLT: Barnes + no13

????

CLT and GS would be robbing MN.

I get that. MKG's impact on defense is huge. But, again it all starts with Clifford's coaching style.

Plus, if MKG is that good defensively then I'm def not worry about having Barnes and Melo (if possible). They're not going to hurt MKG.

Barnes should play most of his minutes at PF, thats what he played in the 2013 playoffs when he looked great filling in for Lee.  Hes got decent size at 6'8 and is strong enough to defend all but a handful of PFs in the league right now, plus he gives you elite shooting from that spot.

Thats where the league is heading, but GS is too attached to playing Lee 35 minutes every night to see what they have in Barnes

So...

GS - Love

Charlotte - Barnes, #13

TWolves - #9, Player?

That trade is so bad it needed 2 MJ laughing GIFS. Giving up Kevin Love to move up in the draft 4 spots, while adding 1 other guy maybe? I mean, I had to miss something here right? LIke, David Lee, Klay Thompson, maybe more 1st rounders? Had to be a misprint.

That's why I would give up the 9th pick for Barnes. The kid can play the 2, 3, and 4. Also, he's not a finish product. Still a ton of upside.

We already seen what he could do in the NBA. Just need to do it on a consistent basis. I think if he's given the opportunity rather than having to compete behind Curry, Klay, and Iggy, he will. There's not really any guys that are projected to be there at 9 that you could say it's better than Barnes right now.

If Melo came here, I think it would mess up our chemistry.  By that I mean we would pretty much become a one man team, dumping the weight on his shoulders.  I understand Big Al would command respect, but Melo has the superstar name.  He would take it upon himself to win games I believe.  Nah, I don't want that for this team.  I would rather go hard after Kevin Love next year.  Him and Big Al would be equal partners in carrying this team, and we would be much more formidable.

Yea, I would run outside naked if that happened. But, what a stupid trade for Minny.

Maybe something like this:

GSW : Kevin Love

Minny : no9 , no.24, Lee

CLT: no13, Barnes
