Here's to hoping Dickson's Hands support his words

Bryan Strickland of Panthers.com has given us a nice "fluff piece" on the mindset of Ed Dickson.  Dickson is saying all the right things in regards to earning a legitimate role on his new team.  He praises Cam Newton's willingness to do what it takes to win, and apparently that belief about Cam is "contagious".

"Anybody would want to be a part of this team with the things that Coach (Ron) Rivera and all the coaching staff is bringing to the table, and I can't say enough about Cam (Newton) and the things he can do. He's a born winner. He's not going to rest until he wins, and that's contagious.

Implicit in that statement as well, is the fact that Rivera and his staff have created that same culture.  And Dickson's statements are evidence that the desire to win for each other truly is rubbing off on the newbies.

"I'm just a smart, veteran player who just loves to compete, loves to compete," he said. "Whether that's catching the ball or blocking or special teams, you're going to see 84 out there getting the job done, getting the crowd involved in the game, getting in the end zone.

"My goal is to get that ‘W.' I'm not going to smile until we get that ‘W.' "

It's good to know that Dickson is "smart".  Seriously.  He appears to be a pretty high character guy that appreciates his "second" chance (if you will) to be that guy that can complement Olsen and Cam, much like Jeremy Shockey did during their first season.

"If we want to get back there, I've got to prove that I can handle that responsibility to be that guy on the field," Dickson said. "I know I can, but it starts in practice. I respect the heck out of Greg as well as the things that Shockey did for the team, and we're trying to take it to the next level and win some championships."

Of course, the problem with Dickson is that his hands betrayed him in Baltimore.  Of course it kinda sounds like that may have been due to his confidence taking a shot when his reliance as "the guy" didn't pan out like he wanted, so a fresh atmosphere may be just what the doctor ordered.

I'm pretty pleased with the way things are going, the reps we're getting in and the growth we've had," Dickson said. "It's all a process, and I came here knowing that. I didn't come here asking them to hand me anything.

"My goal is to compete to be out there to help this team get in the playoffs and go deep. This is a good, young team with a great quarterback and a great defense. We can go far. I'm just coming in here as another addition, ready to work."

if we keep grabbing guys like Blackburn and Dickson we are guaranteed to win a SB, right?

name me the starting receivers on the giants first SB win? id rather have no namers that are cap friendly can contribute and work within the system then big namers that are out for themeselves.

seriously though, as a 3rd to 5th option helping stretch the field in the middle, his length and athletic ability should be enough to cause LB and S trouble...  2TE set doesn't need world class playmakers at TE to fill both spots...

KB adds a whole other dimension on the outside..

if we can get some run blocking from these guys there's a good chance we break top 20 in offense...

He's one if the guys that gets over looked when it comes to our new receiver corp. He adds another scoring threat as well as very good physical blocker. His speed should be underestimated against opposing teams linebackers. This kid will be a pleasant surprise to the PantherNation this season. He will become our best acquisition this offseason.

i hope he does well. it would be great for cam to have 3 regular targets 6-4 and above.

add those three and jerrico cotchery to what cam and tolbert bring in the end zone and we've got some real improving in our chances to score.

we were pretty efficient last year, more than most teams, but we still needed to score more and make more of the limited chances we give ourselves because of the pace of offense. i think that happens this year. there's no defense that's going to be able to stop with any kind of regularity all four of those targets and keep cam and tolbert in check.

IMO ed dickson might end up being out best signing hes only 26 and had a decent year when he was given the opportunity to start the entire season in 2011

Last year, we were very good between the 20's, but seemed to drop off a little in the red zone(or maybe the SF game just stands out the most), but at least this year we have the targets to both pass and run in the red zone.  Hopefully, we can continue to productive between the 20's also.

I don't know about Mike Shula, but I sure as hell can't wait to buy Madden....
