ust because they’re supposed to be non-contact workouts this time of year, it doesn’t make them safe.

The latest injury could be in Giants OTAs, though there’s no word yet on the severity.

Via Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, Giants middle linebacker Jon Beason was carted off the field to the locker room.

Beason re-upped with the Giants this offseason, after playing well last year following his trade from the Panthers. He stabilized the middle of the defense, and would be a significant loss if it’s anything serious.

I hope Beast is okay.

TDs second ACL tear was during the non-contact portion of OTAs, wasn't it?

unfortunately for beason, this kind of thing is going to be more common to him the rest of his career. he stayed healthy for most of his time here, but for some players that first injury is kind of like opening pandora's box because they become more susceptible to injury and they happen more frequently. that seems to be what happened to beason.

We got screwed on that deal.

Not really.

He had already been benched before he was traded, and he was getting paid way too much money to be a bench warmer.  Add in the fact that he didn't wanna be here if he wasn't starting at MLB.  Good as Beason was, he wasn't what he used to be, and there was no way he was getting that job back with Luke in there.

So you wind up with a 7th round pick, a little cap relief and a big contract off the books in exchange for a depth player.  That's not really what I'd consider a bad deal.

I've wished him all the success in the world, but the team made the right decision.

I only hope this injury isn't severe.

Well it cost more cap space to trade him than keep him. The pick got us Benwikere so hopefully he pans out.

It is my understanding that we are still paying Beason some millions of dollars and a 7th rounder is hardly fair trade value for a guy who started last year for the Giants.

Not in the long run.  His cap figures for the years ahead were going to be pretty big.  As it stands, probably still some dead money there for a year or two but he was another of Hurney's megadeals.

The bigger deal for me though is that he just didn't play very well at all on the outside and there was zero chance of him starting over Luke.

you can't say that, yet.  If Benwikere ends up starting for us for 10 years, then it was a hell of a trade on our part.
