The question isn't what he deserves. That is completely subjective. The question is what does he want and what can we afford? Can we win with 1/7th of the Cap invested in 1/53rd of the roster? We've seen 20million a year quarterbacks have success but we've never seen one win the Super Bowl. The last 2 SB winning QBs were on rookie deals.

 

I went back 5 Super Bowls, no QB had a cap figure over $15m. The other big factor is the rising salary cap. If we can predict that well we can make good decisions. One of the reasons Marty handed out all those gigantic contracts is he expected the cap to go up more than it has. It was a colossal error on his part.

That's true, but isn't every NFL player replaceable to some degree?  How many guys has signed huge deals and completely fallen off a cliff performance wise? These performance based/easy to part ways with contracts need to be the future, too many players like Mario Williams, Hanesworth, Flacco etc etc cash their big guaranteed check and then clock out.

With the way that we've asked him to carry/piggyback the offense for three years while throwing most resources at the defense instead, you better believe he's going to make more than Kap.

 

• Better passer
• Better stats on a lesser team (to begin with - we're getting there)
• Not only a very good QB for us, he typically hauls up our rushing game from lol to decent
• As mentioned, we drafted a franchise QB then spent the next few seasons throwing everything at the defense and relying on Newton to generate any/all offense

I love what Gman has done,  and as fans we expect a lot from Cotchery, KB, Avant and underwood,   but the reality is,  the odds are against any of them being a legit #1 Wr this season.  KB having the most potential,  but will probably need time,  despite my hopes that he explodes unto the scene.   Our LT protecting Cam's blindside has the potential to cause Cam a lot of problems, no matter who is starting there this year.         

 

Gman did what he could,  but we may not have the weapons that Cam,  from an individual standpoint,  can succeed this season.             You can believe that his agent will be pointing to the lack of talent surrounding Cam on the offense and it not being Cam's fault that we're paying like $250M a year for Dwill and Stewart.

I think an insulting, lowball of an offer comes first.    I wouldn't expect anything less from Gman.  If he's the savvy GM that I believe him to be.   Cam's agent will put on the pressure,  and Gman evaluates his options, and basically decides to make Cam the highest paid Qb in the NFL.

However, "Kaep's" replaceable to San Fran because:

 

1) The system they play

2) The talent they have, compensating for lack of stellar QB play (like their system above). 

3) Kaeps one read, happy feet, then bolt nature (he has the composure of an electrified chicken)

4) Career bust Alex Smith success in it for two years

5) The Talent they have

6) Harbaugh's confidence in himself

7) Another career bust Blaine Gabbert waiting in the wings

 

Why else would "Kaep" take that contract if he and his agent (and maybe the rest of the NFL) believed in his current QB skills?

Yeah, but the article doesn't even state that they actually spoke to Cam or anyone else affiliated to him. 

 

Plus, of course Cam and his agent would want more than Kaep. The problem is, neither he or his agent has said anything currently (as they shouldn't).
