The Redskins Commercial the NFL does not want us to see

Some of y'all just don't get it. When you come from a privileged place in our society, I can see why you would say that. It may not be a 'slur' but it's still disrespectful. I'll just leave it at this:

You make an interesting post here. I am reminded of the penis envy theory from (Frued???). I can't remember the details but basically when it was challenged based on certain women's thoughts the response was basically that women could not understand or relate because of the penis envy condition, thus the theory negates and dismisses the counter argument. People come from XYZ background therefore they can't relate.

I am not sure where I fall on this issue and don't really care too much about it. I have hated the DC franchise and have always refered to thEm as the Foreskins.

I. will say that I understand that there are some people that are genuinely offended but there are probably a whole lot more that are acting on it when it is in the spotlight. My take

1. Wonder how many senators/congressmen that spok out or signed a petition has attended a Redskin game. I would say probably quite a few. To them I say FUG YOU hypocrite.

2. Wonder how many people took sides on this just now and have gone to the offended category. If you are one of them and have watched a Redskin game in the past without considering the offensiveness of this name you are highly passive and easily influenced by what happens to be moving the needle at the moment.

That is all

Haven't watched the commercial yet, but I've heard about it.

But I don't need to watch it to know my stance on the name.

There is a reason why my sig say I'm a fan of the Burgundy and Gold.

There are some Burgundy and Gold fans like myself that have long since been embarrassed by the name.

Love the logo, love the tradition but if the intent of the name is truely to honor native americans they would more effectively achieve that goal if the name was Warriors or Shaman etc...

I hate that the organization is on the wrong side of this issue.

Chiefs, braves, warriors --- honorable names. Redskins are what was sold after skinning them. Not hard to see why the name is offensive.

Its racist and should be changed. The only reason it has not been was because still to this day Native Americans are oppressed. If it were called the Washington coloreds or the Washington n****s it would have been changed years ago.

I'll start caring when a significant portion of the Native American community starts actually being offended, rather than a few isolated groups government officials are blowing up to show everyone how "cool and progressive" they are. This is a fabricated issue by people who want there to be a problem.

the majority of native americans have more pressing concerns.  but regardless of if the majority of them are deeply offended, the very first instance of public protest to the name was by a native american activism group in 1968. there is no debating that there are native americans that are insulted by this name, and a decent portion of them.

there is also no debating that the word redskin is an ethnic slur.

given that there are some people insulted by the use of a racial slur as a team name, what reason, exactly, do you have for suggesting it not be changed?

let's say 10% of native americans find it offensive.  is that enough for you?  what's your "offended threshold" for when a racial slur becomes inappropriate for use in a fuging team name>
