What a tough group they're in. Going to be tough for the Americans, but they seem to get better every World Cup. Would be nice to see the Germans get knocked out, although highly unlikely.

Don't underestimate Ghana, US fans. Remember what happened when Asamoah Gyan turned on 4 years ago. They would've beaten Uruguay if not for rat face Suarez disrespecting the game he plays.

Not really. Teams like Spain, Brazil, Germany, and France can afford to play sloppy. The US, however, cannot.

 

That's not my point. Either way, I'm sorry but players like Bradley and Dempsey are NOT world class. In order for them to be considered on that caliber they need to find greater success than having just average or moderate seasons on lower and mid-level European teams. There are differences between a good player, an elite player and a world class player, especially at the international level. Feel free to disagree but until US players make some real noise against higher quality squads, that's the truth. Furthermore, no major soccer publication ranks any USMNT member with European's best outside Howard.

You underrate a less talented team's ability to capitalize on a more talented team playing against a team that's playing sloppy. In fact, that's the EXACT reason why France didn't make it out of the '10 Cup group stage, it's why the US tied England and was able to moved on, and it's also why Italy watched the Knockout Stage from home too.

Clint Dempsey has scored over 50 EPL goals. Get that sh*t out of here man, just get it out.

 

Your definition of world class and elite are fuging switched anyway. A World Class player can simply play with anyone in the world. Dempsey, Michael Bradley, and Tim Howard fall into that category. They can play on big league teams in the world and make a push to start (though I would say Dempsey is questionable there but hasn't been for long). An elite player is a Messi, a Ronaldo, an Iniesta, a van Persie, an Ibrahimovic, etc. Elite is the platinium grade you give any athlete.

 

Michael Bradley is the exact definition of a fantastic young prospect that gets sh*t talked by the rest of the world because of his nationality. It's why Arsenal didn't pay up to get him, and that's exactly what you're doing right now and it's just stupid man. You're flat out wrong.

England is a baffling case. They boast The English Premier League as the standard for the world's talent but the English squad always tends to flop on large stages like The World Cup. Some of it is from the overhyping of talent but when I look at England I see too many egos too.

 

It's undoubtedly the latter. They don't know how to play together as a team, and it's been the same way for as long as I've been alive.

 

They've usually got top level talent and should always be a competitor, but there's something about it that never seems to work.

 

This is why I started to pull for the US last World Cup in addition to England. Now I've got an overachieving squad that works together as a team and an underachieving squad that plays like balls together representing the nation.

Gyan has not being playing in a competitive league but the speed I saw from him yesterday was nice. Our team has changed a lot though. Prince Boateng seems to have gotten slow, like Sulley and Essien. However, watching how we were able to slow down a Korean attack that was consistently committing 4 players and stretching our defense, I think our team is in good shape.

I would definitely label England as the classic underachiever. So much talent and potential but they never come close to fulfilling it. From meltdowns to flat play to errors, England never appears to be in it mentally.

Uhhh, did you not see the last World Cup? Spain was on cruise control for half the tournament and they still won it all. A case can be made for Italy when they won The World Cup as well. So, no, I'm not incorrect. Squads like Germany can afford to make more mistakes than a team like Ghana. Upsets are always a possibility if an opponent is taken lightly but when your team is stacked with talent you can afford to take a loss. Again, that's the difference between a Japan and a Brazil.

Who cares if Dempsey scored 50 EPL goals? J. Hernandez has 59 EPL goals. He's done that in three and a half seasons, and he's incredibly overrated. Your definition of World Class is misguided.

 

Bradley hasn't proven anything. You can label it as poo talk from other nations because he's an American but there's a layer of truth to it. Donovan is the most successful USMNT member and he was considered a back up for a team like Bayern Munich. I mean seriously, Bradley got schooled by a 20 year old prospect from Switzerland and you believe he's a World Class caliber player? Lulz.

 

How is that the impression you get? I made 3 statements, that I believe we will beat Ghana, that theres a slight possibility we could beat Portugal if Pepe, Ronaldo, and Meireles aren't on their game, and that Germany will eat us for lunch. How the hell does that make me argue that the US is a powerhouse football team?

 

Yeah, you're right who cares if Dempsey scored 72 goals in his 7 year EPL career. What a scrub.

 

Bradley played well in Serie A, it took 10 million from the MLS to pry him away. Dempsey played better in the EPL. Those are world class leagues. Players that make a many appearances and make a mark in world class leagues, in my opinion, are world class players. That really isn't an overstatement at all. And in terms of Hernandez, you don't just make 100+ appearances for Man U for nothing.

 

I'm not saying these players are legends or anything, I'm simply saying that are worthy of respect on an international stage, which they are. I'm also not saying that the US will even advance to the round of 16. I said I think they may win 2 fuging games.
