Hornets Are Interested In McDermott At #9?

This thread is absolutely fuging ridiculous. 15 pages of the exact same argument being made over and over and over. Let's come to the conclusion we won't know until we see the kid play in the NBA. I highly doubt McDermott will be a bust and I highly doubt he will be a successful starter in the NBA. He will probably be a career situational/role player.

Coach Clifford said McDermott will surly be a Small Forward in the NBA. This means we are done with MKG or we are drafting a backup with the #9 pick in the deepest draft in over a decade. Which is it?

I can't believe we are done with the catalyst of Clifford's defensive scheme MKG. We need more scoring from our wings but not at the cost of our top 6 defense.

If you take McDermott and trade away MKG. That means you have to get more defensive minded at PF and SG.

Did you see him against Duke or Baylor when he struggled against longer more athletic defenders.

Yes. Fortunately I watched many other games as well.

Against Baylor he still shot 50% from the field and scored 15 points despite being in foul trouble and playing less minutes than usual.

If only more players "struggled" so much.

I doubt anyone we draft will start day 1. If we draft a PF that doesn't mean we are done with Zeller or McBob. If we draft a PG that doesn't mean we are done with Kemba. If we draft a SF that doesn't mean we are done with MKG. Etc.

But if MKG doesn't improve his offense he won't play much like he doesn't in the 4th quarter now.

Creating competition at all positions is a good thing. Who is to say that McD doesn't turn out to be a better player than MKG.

Who says he will??

And we do have Jeff Taylor who I think is a perfect 6 man when healthy.

Plus I think Stackus or PJ could start at SG day one.

PJ REALLY can't defend (or at least at UNC he couldn't) that is actually the reason he had to play the 4.  He couldn't get through screens, was lazy off the ball, he couldn't effectively defend pick and roll, and had trouble defending against dribble penetration.  If your concern is defense take PJ off your draft board as well.

I know a lot UNC fans disagree with me, but I am also a UNC fan but knew exactly why he wasn't getting the minutes at the beginning of his last season at UNC and it wasn't his attitude and it certainly wasn't because he couldn't score.

The only way he could get minutes at UNC was to play the 4, specifically because he was so bad defensively.  He is a taller version of Ben Gordon with less handle but more strength.

Stauskas I doubt he would start over Hendo day one.  But I won't shed one tear if we drafted Stauskas over McDermott.  But Stauskas isn't a slam dunk either.  Once you get to #9 all the players have questions and holes

And I hope that Jeff Taylor a career 6ppg player and shoots in the low 40% from the field is not our best option for 6th man.  If so our bench sucks.  I hope he can develop and maybe he can become that type of player, but he has a ways to go.  He is just a defensive guy right now, and even there he tends to foul too much

They wont.  PJ and Stauskas might be good enough on offense, but it takes time to adjust to playing defense in the NBA, especially a complex scheme like Clifford's.  Only a few players step in and start from day 1 in the NBA, particularly when the team 1) has a decent established starter at the position, and 2) actually cares about winning games.

I could see them starting by the end of the season though, but they will start out as rotation guys off the bench
