Hornets Are Interested In McDermott At #9?

People calling him a elite scorer and McDermott can't even handle the ball. How are you a elite scorer if you can't break people down off the dribble.

You seen him play?

One of his main ways of scoring is taking man off the dribble and finishing with a layup with either hand.

There are ways to create shots for yourself without breaking people down off the dribble. Being an elite shooter also makes it easier when guys have to close out on you so hard.

If he is a great shooter you will either close out out of control or teams will go no help off of you which creates a ton of space for other players.

I have seen elite shooters totally disrupt a defense without barely getting a shot off by taking one defensive player effectively off the court when they go "black" (different teams call it different things but it basically means no help off of him) on a guy.

He is going to be a solid offensive player and would be great to have to combine with MKG. I would rather trade up and try to get Parker. If not I would like to get Vonleh, Randle or Gordon with the 9th pick and someone like Hood, Strauskas, Warren, or Napier with the 24th. I think we can get a big name FA and depending who we draft we could end up being a top team on paper.

No it's not!! He has no handles at all. Most his points come from open 3' or jump shots and post ups.

He never breaks a man down from the bounce.

Elite shooter maybe ( I'll wait until he's in the league) but elite scores are Melo, Durrant, and James Harden. Guys who can score from any where and any way.

Not to mention taking man off the bounce and spinning right or left and scoring with a jump hook.

Yeah that's not going to be a good move for him in the league. He better learn how to run threw screens all game and leave the post up hook shots in college. That part of his game is done now.

But I love how more people are willing to throwaway a top 10 pick on a bench player specialist.

We could get James Jones and Shane Battie they'll do the same thing for us at a cheaper rate.

(Notice the use of black examples)

@1:19 - Beats man off the dribble for layup

@2:45 - Beats man off the dribble for layup

You understand basketball man? When people have to play you close, it doesnt take alot to be able to beat them off the dribble.

Why not?

Using body to shield ball and doing hook over the off shoulder is unguardable.

Really you call that breaking somebody down with the dribble.

I'm sorry that looks more  like getting the 1st step on a slow footed guy who won't see a NBA court.

This is breaking somebody down with the dribble

This is a person he will have to guard by the way.
