3-4 Defense This Season?

A NT in the 3-4 is a truly rare beast in this day and age. They have to be able to take on and tie up a center, a guard and often a blocking back on each and every play. They have to look like Andre the Giant fighting off a swarm of midget wrestlers every down of every game.

Someone once said a good nose tackle is country strong -- they should be able to throw 75-lb. feedbags all day, carry calves and pigs, pull a plow when needed, bend anvils back into shape and get up the next morning to do it all again, with a smile and an aw-shucks, tain't nothin' attitude. It doesn't require a mean streak, but it does require someone who can joyfully engage in a fray.

"I fight gangs for local charities and stuff. " Andre the Giant as Fezzik in The Princess Bride.

Besides, the 4-3 fits Meeks' defensive philosophy better and won't require a rewrite of our defensive playbook. I really think we ought to find Jordan Carstens out there somewhere. Talk about country strong...

When did Mark Twain start posting on this board?

Seriously though, you raise some excellent points. And I too would like to know what became of Jordan Carstens. He hasn't played in years and people on this board still give him props. He made quite an impact during his short time with the Panthers

Medical issues with a blood clot on his right lung forced him to retire if I remember correctly.

That would easily be the smallest and most bullied defensive line in league history. Have you ever seen a 3-4 defense? Do you know what a 3-4 end is? Damione Lewis is a 3-4 end. Peppers is a 3-4 OLB. If those 3 went up against 5 linemen, we would have zero sacks from our D-line at season's end. Much less, do you know how long it takes to switch to a 3-4 defense? It's a complete defensive overhaul.

Terrible idea. Lets squash this right now! NO MORE 3-4 THREADS!

Obviously, the answer to all those questions you asked to the OPer is NO!!!

fox is 4-3 guy, meeks is a 4-3 guy, we do not have the personnel for a 3-4 mainly because in order to run one you need a big NT which would have been kemo. plus it isnt as easy as just waking up one morning and changing he whole defensive scheme weve drafted for since fox got here.

I have not been to training camp but I have heard that our offense is running the ball down the defense's throat. We need to swith to a 3-4 defense this season to make up for the loss of Kemo on the D-line. We have the LB's to run a 3-4 defense but the question is will Fox change, plus it would make Julius happy and maybe he would re-sign after this season.

LDE: Tyler Brayton / Everette Brown

NT: Damione Lewis

RDE: Julius Peppers

LOLB: Na'il Diggs

LILB: Dan Connor

RILB: Jon Beason

ROLB: Thomas Davis

LCB: Chris Gamble

SS: Chris Harris

FS: Charles Godfrey

RCB: Richard Marshall

I think it could work but like I said will Fox change?

Considering the defense is not allowed to tackle I am not sure what other outcome to expect?

Absolutely brilliant idea. DL gets injured so we change the entire defensive philosophy. I know most of the players aren't used to the schemes and most of them don't fit the mold but hey, its a long season. I am sure by week 12 or 13 total confusion and chaos will give way to bumbling buffoonery.

maybe a bit off topic but while were at it I think the combo of Stewart and Williams would be just friggin dominant in the single wing. Plus Dwills dreads would be AWESOME coming out of his leather helmet.

Thoughts??

My thoughts are as follows: I welcome any deterrent to stupid fugging threads such as this one..

Perhaps the defense can smoke a dread from DWill and gain his awesomeness?
