How Many Years Do You Give MKG?

Recommended Posts

Here's a link to an article about his defense.

Team with him in lineup 93.3, with out slightly over 100.

Here's another one about what the team allowed him to do and what he meant defensively.

Two stats from that last one for those that don't understand what he means defensively. Average per against 11.1, effective FG% 46.6.

His defense can be replaced though.

I'm not saying his defense isn't good, but it's not elite. If his defense was elite we wouldn't be having this conversation.

You can replace good with good. It's hard to replace elite with elite.

I also don't think his defense affected the team as much as you think it did.

Was his defense a big reason that we made the playoffs, yes. Would we collapse as a team without him, I'm not so sure.

MKG averaged 24 minutes per game (half the game). I have a hard time believing that you can be a huge impact on the game playing only half the game.... that's just me.

In summary, I believe he plays a big impact on our team but if he doesn't develop a jump shot in the next two years we need to find small forward player that is not only good on the defensive end, but he's not a liability on the offensive end as well... that is unless we are able to land a superstar shooting guard or power forward in the next two years.

Yup.

Would you rather have MKG or Leonard? I'll take Leonard.

You don't need a great individual defensive talent. You need a team defense.

In addition to his jump shot, he needs to play better when he doesn't have the ball in his hands.  I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to cut to the rim without the ball, receive a pass, and finish more often.  He shouldn't have to create his shot off the dribble every time.

I've completely lost any hope of him fixing that damn ridiculous hitch but he can still be a good player if he can be aggressive. Almost every game this year started with a play designed for MKG to go to the hoop which tells me Coach Cliff is at least trying to get him going on offense.

maybe he doesn't play off the ball in the way you are thinking of.  But i remember reading that Clifford stated he is one of only a few players allowed to get offensive boards, the only non guard allowed to bring the ball up court, and I can't tell you how many times i watched he give up his body to keep a ball in bounds.  If that doesn't count for something I don't know what does.

Here is a vine of how far MKG's shot has already come this off season.  If he can get this to translate to the game, he will be just fine.

Now i just hope we can get Mark price to hang around for one more season or so.

Presently I think most people would take Leonard, but long term I'd take MKG. We know what we get with Leonard, we still are in a wait and see mode with MKG.

Potential is that word that we all love and hate.
