How Many Years Do You Give MKG?

Recommended Posts

Have I missed the rule that all of the players on the team need to be All-Stars? I can bet that the Heat and the Spurs could use a player like MKG on their roster so why can't we?

I think we are all blinded by the #2 that we are failing to realize that a NBA roster has many different players of different strengths and quality. Now I for one am not willing to say if he doesn't learn to shoot than get rid of him because his defense is obviously a huge asset for us as a team.

I am also not willing to say that we shouldn't try to upgrade the position because if we aren't looking to get better what's the point.

The fact is this, there are uses for the MKGs and Zellers of the world. They have potential and if they reach it jackpot, if they don't we have 2 quality reserves which gives us a great deal of depth in the future.

No where did anyone insinuate he had to be an All-Star.

However, everyone knows that he needs to develop a jump shot.

There is a reason there are hardly any one-dimensional players in this league.

This is why I hate when you draft guys who need developing. Fans never have the patience to allow him to actually develop.

He never would've been drafted at #2 if Kentucky didn't luck out and have Kendall Marshall injure his wrist. MKG was drafted #2 because Kentucky won the Championship, not because of his individual skills compared to others, so I see no reason to "be patient."

Not his fault. It is what it is.

How many years do you want to give him?

We have a short window to win now and the the front office know's that, that's why we're open to to trading our picks for a veteran player.

Jefferson is only going to be at the top of his game for a max of three more years, so if it takes five years for MKG to develop then it's already too late.

I love MKG but he would be much more useful on a team like Milwaukee or Philadelphia whose main goal is to develop talent right now.

He's a good role player for our team and we need his defense. We def need to give him through his rookie contract. Then we can see hows he developed. Also even if he doesn't ever get a jump shot, which I think he will, I say give him another contract because he helps us a lot.

Also I don't get this, he's literally what makes the defense work. The defense is a big reason the team won enough games to make the playoffs. Defense and Jefferson were the two big factors on the team making the playoffs.

His defense can be replaced though.

I'm not saying his defense isn't good, but it's not elite. If his defense was elite we wouldn't be having this conversation.

You can replace good with good. It's hard to replace elite with elite.

I also don't think his defense affected the team as much as you think it did.

Was his defense a big reason that we made the playoffs, yes. Would we collapse as a team without him, I'm not so sure.

MKG averaged 24 minutes per game (half the game). I have a hard time believing that you can be a huge impact on the game playing only half the game.... that's just me.

In summary, I believe he plays a big impact on our team but if he doesn't develop a jump shot in the next two years we need to find small forward player that is not only good on the defensive end, but he's not a liability on the offensive end as well... that is unless we are able to land a superstar shooting guard or power forward in the next two years.
