I can agree with that, but I don't think Stauskas' ball handing skills are leaps and bounds better than Henderson's.

 

Stauskas' ball handling skills ARE leaps and bounds better than Hendo... Just watch his highlights from Michigan or his pre-draft workouts.

 

Hendo looks clumsy with the ball and essentially only uses one dribble to elevate for fade-away jumpers... 

 

It's laughable. Stauskas is smooth with the ball.

we are in win now mode. we have a good base and are young as hell

we don't need anymore rookies, we need people who can produce THIS year to move up from #7 in the playoffs to the Top 4. Stauskas will not do that- Afflalo could potentially do that

 

but we still need to get a backup PG and another solid Big, especially if McBob is gone

The thing about trading the pick for a guy like Affalo is it destroys any chance we have of finding that "star" player every team needs to be put over the top. If we took Stauskus or Lavine we would have a "chance" at one of them becoming a stud and putting us over the top. Affalo just makes us a 6th or 5th seed for a couple years at best, IMO

I haven't even heard anything suggesting that- matter fact- they are being labeled as REACH at #9

most people are on here talking about trading down and picking them up.. you don't trade down to draft a "star player"

 

don't know if im making sense so ill just say this- dont hold your breath to see if Staus or Lavine makes the Allstar team anytime soon

Being a good ball handler against cones is not the same as being a good ball handler with someone in your jersey.

Those moves you saw him perform don't transfer to the game, just watch his tape. He gets by on his length and decent athleticism.

One of his weakness (according to DraftExpress) is creating consistently, so obviously he isn't as good of a ball handler as you think he is.

 

If he was a great ball handler he would have no problem at creating a shot for himself consistently.

And Hansbrough was unstoppable in college. It means nothing. This guy is slow as molasses and will struggle at the next level. Ceiling for him = Kyle Korver; most likely = JJ Reddick; probably will be just another bust.

Check the tail end of the season... 6 points, 9 points, 11 points, 10 points, then up to 25 points, 21 points etc... If that's not inconsistent then I don't know what is.

As for that step back jumper, guys in the NBA are taller and longer, he needs more than one move if he wants to be successful.

Let's not forget, I like Stauskas but it's stupid to act like he doesn't have any flaws in his game.

^^ Staus is 6'6 with a respectable wingspan. 

 

He will be able to get off that step back J anytime he wants. 

 

To even remotely contest it a defender would have to jump and commit on Staus stepback prior to release allowing Staus to fake the step back and blow by them after the defender leaves his feet. 

 

No one said Staus doesnt have flaws in his game. Not a good defender, not the best athleticism, etc.

For what it's worth, if it came down to us picking at nine Saric or Stauskas would probably be the two I'm looking at.

Neither need a whole lot of time to develop (i.e. Gordon/Vonleh) and neither scream bust (McDermott).

I'm not trying to hate on Stauskas, I just don't see him coming in and averaging 18 ppg as a rookie... 12 seems reasonable.

More like 12-15ppg 5assists 40+% from 3

 

With some nights where he goes for 20+
