Stauskas To Work Out For Hornets Wednesday

Recommended Posts

I can agree with that, but I don't think Stauskas' ball handing skills are leaps and bounds better than Henderson's.

Leaps and bounds? Maybe not.

Significantly better, yes.

You can run an offense through Staus.

Good luck running an offense through Hendo.

Nothing / No one is a sure thing.

What you have and can get are prospects, many of which are better than AA at 9.

AA is like a less athletic Hendo with a jumper. Good but not great.

Give me Staus all day over AA.

Afflalo played like a borderline all star this season. He would be an upgrade at the SG position, if they wanted to continue with MKG; or they could play him at SF if the team wanted to keep Henderson in the lineup. I think him and Nelson would be good additions. It would give the team depth and proven production at the two guard positions. Is whether we go with Kemba and Afflalo, or Nelson and Henserson - whatever the combination - we'd have production that shouldn't miss a beat.

As for Afflalo versus Stauskas, the kid is talented. We'd get him for four years rather than Afflalo's two. But what it comes down to is whether the team values a proven NBA player on offense and defense, or if they want to go with a rookie. Obviously we have Henderson to start, and that would allow Stauskas can come off the bench and do what he does best. But he's not significantly more athletic than Afflalo, and he doesn't seem to be better defensively either. So while he'd probably be a cheaper option, it might be better for a team that has its heart set on becoming a better team in the East to grab the proven veteran who can still continue to improve, or at least, refine his game.

I'd go for a Nelson/Afflalo combination over Stauskas. But if we went for Stauskas in order to keep cap space free to upgrade the SF or PF position, the that could be a wise move to make. Though personally I'd go for McDermott if he's available at #9 because he can rotate with MKG, and then we can pursue one of the bigger name PFs. But that's just how I see it.

I get the exact opposite impression.

Let's recap...

According to a source, a team called and asked if we would be willing to part with our picks (not pick, but picks), we said yes.

Now let's take a look at who are first few workouts were... they were players that you would take at 24 overall or 45 overall.

This leads me to believe that we would be very open to trading #9 if we get a good player back and would be willing to part with all of our picks if we get a very good player back.

I expect a trade come draft day for either the ninth overall pick or all of the picks.

Agreed, but it would really depend on the player in question. Because the alternative could be to use the two picks to add scoring, and then add a free agent to upgrade the PF position, or C if Al slides to PF.

At #9 we are in the position to add a guy like Doug McDermott who could add instant scoring to our team whether as a starter or off the bench option to rotate with MKG. They could look at a SG like Stauskas or Harris. Or we could look to add a PF like Gordon. There are good options at #9 that can improve the team.

At #24 the options could be a forward like TJ Warren or Glenn Robinson. We could look at a PF like Adreian Payne if he falls that far. Hairston could be an option to add scoring off the bench. Again, there are options to bring in.

Now personally I would like to see us use our lottery pick to grab a player that can either step in and start, or come off the bench and give us scoring power. After that I would try and package our late first round pick and second round to try and move up into the mid first round or see if we can pull off a deal for a veteran player. But I don't think it is unlikely that we use our draft picks and grab a free agent. Our line up could be something like:

Kemba / ?

Henderson / Stauskas or Harris / Neal

MKG / Warren / Taylor

Greg Monroe or Jefferson / Zeller

Jefferson or Greg Monroe / Biyombo

Or:

Kemba / LaVine

Henderson / Neal / LaVine

MKG / Warren / Taylor

Greg Monroe or Jefferson / Zeller

Jefferson or Greg Monroe / Biyombo

So what you're saying is that Hendo and Afflalo are nothing a like?

If Hendo had a jumper we wouldn't be even having this conversation because he'd probably be a top 10 shooting guard.

His overall game is good, his inability to score isn't.

That is hysterical.

So your logic is that if our SG actually had a good shot...then we would not need a new SG?

Well duh

When comparing AA to Stauskas you have to ask whether you think Stauskas will eventually develop into a better player than what we'll get from AA (assuming this hypothetical trade even happens).  It'll be a risk either way...you take Stauskas and he ends up a bust, you look like a dope.  You trade for AA and Stauskas ends up an All-Star, you look like a dope.  Everyone is right that AA is a "proven" commodity.  But by the same token, you know what you're getting with AA.  He's probably as good as he's going to get.  I'd lean towards keeping the pick and drafting Stauskas because I believe he'll turn out to be a really outstanding player...particularly in our offense.  But I can see the argument both ways.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
