Think Cutler's contract not Kaepernick's for Newton

Recommended Posts

Meh. This all means nothing. It's one retired agents opinion.

More accurately, and to his credit: He said “I think $18 million (a year) gets you in the game for Cam, with $50 million in guarantees"Now that makes sense/is the key take away (not OP's title); "Gets You In The Game" sounds more appropriate.

Nonetheless, no one has a crystal ball and knows what's going to happen--both on and off the field in 2014?

Speculating; Cam's contract will have a $18-$22mil avg (for 5-6 years), with $50-$60 mil guaranteed (maybe $70 mil, depending on the contract), regardless of how you wanna break down, allocate the money. Shoot, If Hurney was there, he'd give Cam Newton $70 mil guaranteed for sure. Lol

We'll see?

Well Cam is very marketable, he can make money by endorsements too. And lets not forget the clothing line. He may take a more team-friendly (within reason) deal so they can surround him with some talent. He will get paid near 20 mil we know for sure, but what side of it is the question.

If I was dave id draw up 2 contracts one at what hes worth say 20 a year and a more cap friendly deal at about 16-17 a season and see what one he chooses. Explain that the lesser deal obviously lets us sign more fas and build a more competitive team (I know this wont happen but itd be pretty cool) or he can take all that hes worth

I'm sure everyone here would be fine with paying him a boat load of cash under the table so he has little to no salary cap hit, but unfortunately that's not reality. I can't sit here and say he should take a lesser contract, because he has proven how much he means to this team.

13,331 total yards, and 92 total touchdowns in his first three seasons? Yeah, he deserves it.

The issue with cutler is that the bears believe he can take them to a Super Bowl and mccown couldn't. Overpaid based on stats and relative performance to date - sure. But in the context of the bears, if they believe he can lead them to a championship and mccown can't, pay him. If not, don't - there's no middle ground in the NFL with QBs.

After the allegations at Auburn he'd be literally insane to even try that.

Guaranteed money is generally more highly regarded than the total worth of a contract (especially when it is the contract following your rookie deal).

I could see us shelling out big guaranteed bucks to Cam with a low overall cap hit.

Cam gets his money, we get cap room.  Only drawback is we won't get leverage with Cam, I don't think we'll ever need it though.

You guys are living in a fantasy world, atleast cams next deal will start will a 2. Just no way around it, he's going to get top five money. I wish cam is able to be brainwashed like tom brady was. "O tom in order for us to win superbowls and put a full roster of talent together, you must take 15 million per for the greater good". He ate that up, I don't believe cam&crew will be so kind....... even if its somewhat true. Brady sure was pissed about welkers deal, but he hasn't listened to the dozens&dozens of ex-pats complaining about money. Bill is gd wizard.
