Kony Ealy Earning Praise

I think it's more why do you feel the need to tell random people on the internet to calm down in a bagillion threads and then call other ppl thread nazis

If you are talking about the thread I think you are, I wasn't even talking to you, but if you are upset about it, then okay.

Why does anyone feel the need to post their opinions here? They go ahead and do it anyway regardless.

massive leverage on hardy's contract, our ticket out of CJ's contract, and meanwhile a potential star at the position.

i'm still amazed people freaked out so badly when we snagged him.

i didn't freak out, but i definitely wasn't thrilled with the pick and here's why....i'm not convinced that we will part from either CJ or hardy and i doubt that there will be a significant enough amount of leverage in hardy talks to keep his future contract from not being one of the top ones in the league. he'll still be expensive and we'll still be spending far more than any other team on the position.

i just get a feeling that rivera and gettleman are a bit too convicted in their beliefs about the importance of having the DL stacked.

if we move on from either hardy or CJ, then i'll feel better about the ealy pick. until that happens i just think it's overkill and the imbalance it creates on our own team, esp. on defense, will come back to bite us in the rear.

Using Ealy as leverage with Hardy isn't going to get us much of anywhere unless Hardy ends up having a down year, and I don't see that being very likely at all, he knows he has an even bigger pay day waiting if he balls out this season. As for CJ, I don't understand the hurry to push him out the door, he's our most consistent, and complete DE, just think about the impact it had after he went down against the Patriots.

Thanks for the insight Zod!

And as for Ealy's position on this team, I am a fan of (if he pans out of course) him replacing Hardy. And us restructuring CJ (hopefully). I say this mainly because Hardy's stock is up and there is buzz about him now, so sell high. Get those draft picks and move on.

We have an incredible defensive line.

CJ, Hardy, Star and Short are all potential all-pro players.

Now throw in Luke (and for now TD) along with Rivera's and McDermott's  knowledge and schemes, and this team will remain competitive no matter what the offense produces. Hopefully, Kony produces also . But as long as he is at least an effective role player our D will remain among the best in the league, and that translates to wins.

I want Cam to have weapons as much as anyone and have been screaming about the neglect on the offensive side of the ball for several years. I have been frustrated just like everyone else that we trotted out guys like Legatron and Murphy as key cogs on offense.

The reality is, we are now a team characterized by a dominant defense. I agree with Gettleman that it pays to keep feeding our D, as that is perhaps our best chance to create a long term winner. Hopefully, we get lucky with KB and some of the other young guys. But even if they underproduce, our D is going to keep us a winning team. Ealy is a part of that, and for that reason, I understand and support the pick.

we still have to find the money to keep cam and keep luke and keep star and then somehow find a way to not have the rest of the team be just table scraps. at some point we've got to realize that you just can't throw that much money at one position. i don't care how valuable you think it is, at some point it's just not worth it and we're teetering right on that line and i think if we keep both cj and hardy, we probably have gone too far. it's just too much.

poo i never like it when threads turn into contract discussions, mind you i know why.  i think '2nips and a pair of shorts' tubman is nostradamus reincarnated and i'm just going to leave it at that.

hopefully the players dont think about all that contract stuff.  ealy has a great opportunity with our d-line and coaches.  lets hope he takes advantage of it and becomes a beast, just like the rest.

Well if we're looking for cap space, I know some RBs who may be in double trouble.
