Drafting a new QB every 4-5 years

I have talked about this a few times in the past.

Personally, I don't think that you will have sustained success, but it's interesting to ponder.

Take a look back at the last 10 or so superbowls.  Almost all of the winners were on rookie deals, or team friendly deals when they won.  It's pretty strange, but something that I have noticed.

Had we not had a brain dead Redskins beat writer as a GM we could have set ourselves up this way, but alas we don't.

You don't let your (in our case) best player walk.

I agree with this but it does fall into the same lines as "you dont let your best WR go". While i think Cam is here for the long haul i would not put something past Gettleman given the right or in this case maybe wrong set of circumstances.

Too much of a gamble. You know the commodity of your QB you've been grooming, whose to say these rookies will be better, or even as good.

This is exactly why it would blow up in your face more times than not.

History has shown us that drafting a QB is a major crap shoot.  There are as many high pick busts as great QB's.

The theory definitely has merit in a lot of positions (RB, TE, LB, DB)  but for WR, QB, and DE it is too risky.

Yes I know this thread is stupid, but I don't really care...

With the money being spent on "elite" QBs, what if teams drafted a QB in the first round (trading up if necessary) and didn't re-sign him, but instead just drafted another first round QB when their contract was up?

What I'm trying to get at is say we drafted Bridgewater and released Cam. How much better would we be with a rookie QB plus $15 mil in FAs every year for 4 years vs Cam and our current roster?

Discuss... or don't.

I understand the logic of not spending big on a QB, but drafting a new one every couple years will get you no Super Bowl wins. It would have to be done by signing vets who can play and manage a game for fairly cheap, and having a great o-line and run game. In the end, it's probably worth it to have a franchise QB even with how much it'll cost.

In the case of someone like Peppers, it was time to go.

In Cam's future?I hope not. He's revitalized our fan base and the team since his arrival in 2011. Gettleman would create a lot of hate if he let Cam walk. It's something I couldn't look past if Cam went on to do bigger and better things.

Agree, would add OL to your positions where this could work. Though I might switch DB (CB and S) to the risky positions.
