It's definitely A LOT, it's just nowhere near what the media is going to blow this up as.

Sooner or later, the QB bubble is going to pop. The NFL may be a passing league, but at some point the cost of a franchise QB is going to become too much to bear and still be able to field a competitive complete team.

Honestly the 49ers were a what, 13 win team with Smith? They should have let Kaeperdick walk, gotten a rookie or meh veteran player, gone 11-5, and popped the bubble.

panthers had no need to rush into a deal with cam.  kaepernick had no fifth year option as a 2nd rounder.  panthers will get cam's fifth year on a discount compared to what he will make, yearly, on his next contract.  cam was always gonna make north of $100M.  this deal does nothing to change that fact.

NFL contracts in general have been getting higher and higher. Quarterback's aren't the only ones with $100 million contracts anymore.

 

I wouldn't hold my breath on expecting that to change anytime soon.

It's not that big of a deal.

The salary cap will probably increase to about 150 mil/year in the next couple years so even 20 mil/year for a QB will only be about 12 - 15% of the cap.

Definitely worth it to have a great franchise qb.

Yes we were a 13 win team with smith....When Harbaughs shifts and formations were still confusing the league....when our defense was at its peak and lead the league in turnovers....when we had the easiest schedule in the league after our 6-10 season. Lmao at people that even compare Alex to Kap.

The Rams are going be in a sticky situation with Bradford themselves. Not only did they get screwed paying the largest contract to a rookie QB before the restructure but now they have to contemplate overpaying him again. This for a guy with a horrid win/loss record and the worst YPA going in the NFL. And that's not even factoring in his health of late. I'm actually kind of shocked they didn't use 1 of the RG3 picks to groom his eventual replacement. They now should have enough talent in house to be competing and get out of the top 10-15 picks where you usually find those guys. It'll be interesting to see if they even resign him.
