Sources: Hornets Interested in Lance Stephenson

I've said it a million times, but I wanted Born Ready when he came out and still dont know how he slipped to the second round. That being said, his skill set doesnt really translate well to our current lineup. Would he be an upgrade over Hendo? lol... who isn't? Absolutely he would be. But, we need a scorer. Stephenson isn't a scorer. He's a ballhandling, do-it-all playmaker. A great all-around offensive player, but he isn't that perimeter scoring threat that would put our team over the top. So, I'm not really feeling this...

I think the playoff series against Miami really demonstrated the need for another ball-handler.  They focused on taking the ball out of Kemba's hands and once it was out we really had no other options.

Yeah I agree that a SG with a great 3 point shot would be nice next to MKG, but we need other players who can create off the dribble more.  As long as we play a 4 who has a decent shot (McRoberts, maybe Saric?) I think the offense would be greatly improved switching Hendo for Lance

I could be on board with this. I definitely like the idea of having two guys who can not only handle the ball, but can both create their shots with or without the ball in their hands...both guys being combo guards. Still think we need to go after a SG if we stay at #9. Would love to have someone like Dell who would come in a fill it up.

Yeah but if we're talking about spending 40+ mil on an upgrade at SG, then I feel he has to have the scoring ability.

Again, would he be an upgrade? Yes, and a significant one, but we've all seen this team throughout its existence have everything but perimeter shooting and we know how frustrating it can be.

Personally I'd rather we make a deal for Nelson and Afflalo from Orlando, and then grab Deng if we had the space. A base team like this could be competitive:

Walker / Nelson

Afflalo / Henderson

Deng / MKG / Taylor

McRoberts? / Zeller

Jefferson / Biyombo

That said, Stephenson is a good player that would help us improve. Though if we are paying bigger money for a free agent I'd probably look towards Greg Monroe or a scorer like Rudy Gay if they hit the market.

I would not mind that at all.

I would try to upgrade the PF as well.

Agreed. I'd trade for Nelson and Afflalo because that will give us a proven PG to back up Kemba, and a guy that can start at SG and SF and be an upgrade at both positions.

The alternative route for free agency could be to target a PF, or a C if Jefferson slides back to PF. At PF we could see a guy like Zach Rudolph make an impact if he leaves Memphis, or a vet like Pau Gasol could contribute. At C the obvious candidate is Monroe, though he can play PF; and perhaps a guy that could be cheaper would be Marcin Gortat, he played well for the Wizards.

It is exciting times ahead in terms of what the team can do in free agency, trades and the draft. It would be nice to be able to keep the #24, or if we could get their #12 if we send #9 and #24 their way.
