David Newton thinks Nate Chandler is somehow in this picture

Recommended Posts

I know a bunch of people are going to give bell crap in this thread, but it's encouraging to see him and chandler are shedding weight to try and gain agility. I had no idea he was up near 345 last year, that would explain how sluggish he looked at times.

Hopefully one or both step up and take care of our tackle spots for years to come.

Yep, sluggish feet and his knack for turning his hips was Bell's weakness the last 3 years. Losing 15-20 lbs should improve his feet which will also improve his ability to stay square to the LOS on his kick slides.

He said his goal was to lose 30 by training camp.

That'd be pretty damn impressive.

Current caption:

Byron Bell, left, has slimmed down this offseason and believes he can play left tackle, protecting the blind side of quarterback Cam Newton, center.

Nothing wrong there. Was it different earlier?

To be fair, while David Newton wrote the article, he probably didn't write the caption. He may not even have chosen the picture. As a beat writer, he probably just wrote the story, handed it in and was done with it. Writers don't generally do web layout stuff. Plus considering he's met and talked to bell, Chandler and Wharton on more than one occasion, it's unlikely he'd make that mistake.

Chances are whatever web guy added the pic and caption made the error. Someone caught it and now it's fixed.

It did earlier in the day.  He changed it once he realized it, I'm sure.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
