Our D: Let's Be Honest

How many DTs do we normally carry on the roster...4 or 5? does anyone think with the lack of experience we have at the position well have to carry more than usual? and if so what position will suffer from it?

I think there's a strong possibility of keeping 5 DTs and I believe if that happens, Taylor will be gone.

The Ravens and the Browns made a trade, which I'm sure has Art Modell rolling over in his grave. Mel Kiper's saying it's Haloti Ngata... in fact, he says that the Ravens flat out need him. I hope the poor guy doesn't have to go from those ridiculous Oregon uniforms to wearing purple...

MDS, what's he wearing?

12. Baltimore Ravens. Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon

Ray Lewis complains that he doesn't think the front office has done enough to put the right players around him. What he means is that he wants a big fat defensive tackle in front of him to keep those pesky offensive linemen from blocking him. Ngata is one of those big fat guys.

Anything else??

There is more than one way to configure the line to stop the run and get pressure. With Kemo in there we usually ran a NT/UT scheme with some guys like Kemo and brayton in a 2 gap scheme with Lewis and Peppers in a one gap scheme. Now we will likely run a one gap scheme across the board. Both can be effective as we showed in 2005 when Jenkins went out and we had Peppers, Buckner, Carstens, and Rucker. While I think that line is better than our current one hands down, the scheme was similar and very effectiive against the run and the pass.

He was pretty pissed. That's why they drafted Ngoatia not gonna bother to spell his name correctly in the draft in April of that year.

But I still agree with Fiz. Keep in mind Lewis was pissed because he played in a 3-4 which requires a fat turd in the middle to eat up space like they eat everything else up. The Ravens flushed their fat turd in 2006. We don't NECESSARILY need a fat turd at DT. In 2005 we had the 7th best run d and that was with Panthro's cousin filling in for our own fat turd at the time, Kris Jenkins.

We're not going to get run on for 300 yards every game now, even by really good run teams. That happened because we had to suddenly replace Kemo and Lewis after one week. This happened early, so we have time to adjust. We just need to find the guy who can best replace Kemo early in TC and leave him there. We'll be fine. I hereby rule the fat turd theory null and void.

SmootsDaddy89 already said what I was gonna, about it being more important to have the huge space-eater at NT in the 3-4, not as important in the 4-3. We can be successful with what we have, our offense HAS TO SCORE, make teams pass. Close games will be tougher as teams wear our D down and by fourth quarter... well we saw what happened against the Giants last year. WE HAVE TO BE AHEAD, that is our best chance as if that isn't obvious anyhow. Our rush D was successful early last year when we got ahead in those games, but gave up a bunch of passing yards, then in the second half of the season were just shoot-outs, with the exception of the Denver game. Give me some hungry, aggressive players that want to be out there, prove a point. Hopefully our coaches will have them pumped up at the right times.

Actually I think that game is more Trgo's fault than Lewis/Kemo being hurt, because we should have done something to cover the draw but instead just kept allowing ourself to get burned on it.

I'd understand the concern if we were still running the same zone scheme we were last year. An Attacking Defense will certainly help. Not to mention, Kemo is supposed to take up 2 blockers because he's big, not because he's a threat. Before we used to combat this by having 2 REALLY GOOD DEs and a REALLY GOOD DT. and Bruckner. Some may argue that Jenkins was also a big space eater. yes he was, but he also get hella penetration and penetration is more than enough reason for teams to double someone.

Beason and the rest of the defense are supposed to swarm to the ball anyway. Not only this, but I think with what they're doing in camp, they'll come out with a lot more stamina and endurance which has been an issue in years past.

ok it's 5am.. i don't know if any of that makes any sense...fdjlda
