I seem to remember another later round guy having problems with his contract with the Panthers, and it was something about the length.

I'd assume the length of contract would be the point of contention, and I could see why the agent would want to fight for it. With the new CBA, these players want a chance to make real money as soon as possible.

If they refuse to sign a contract with the team that drafted them, they can set out a year and renter the draft the following year. John Elway threatened to do it, and forced a trade. The only player to actually do it was Bo Jackson.

The length of the rookie contract is set by the CBA. Impossible to negotiate.

Also the salaries are basically set too. I guess there could be negotiation over some ancillary aspect.

 

Anyway there are lots of rookies who haven't signed.

I remember him "holding out" the first year of the new CBA. He was the last one of our rookies to sign I believe. He too was a third rounder.
