Qatar busted for bribing FIFA officials to ****** World Cup away from USA

Soccer generates more revenue and attention than any other sport on the planet. Good luck with that proclamation.

I've felt the need to take on the villain in this soccer section compelling others that would not normally post to give their thoughts and making it more active.

The biggest problem with Soccer worldwide is the business model. In the NFL every change they make is guided towards making money. The salary cap was terrific for small markets because it gave them a chance to compete with the big boys. But the salary cap wasn't about balance, it was about limiting player wages.

In Europe football clubs don't try to earn a profit, they try to win. They are disposable play things for saudi billionaires. And following this logic the World Cup isn't hosted in places that will generate the most revenue. It's a political money grab. The people voting have no incentive to put it in the most profitable countries. Their sole consideration is themselves.

The game of soccer is really good, almost as good as football. But it's not American. The diving, the blatant corruption, the fixed matches. It's a dirty game and it makes it hard to watch.

I sincerely doubt they will move it. But the thing is a mess. Qatar made promises about fully enclosed air conditioned stadiums and once the bid was won they immediately backtracked. Honestly I would be fine if USA boycotted their World Cup.

As far as social issues. I think Qatar is a pretty forward thinking places in terms of civil rights. I knew some people from Qatar and they were just rich dudes that wanted to be American. They are the home of Al Jazeera, a Muslim TV station we often associate with terrorism. My friend worked at Al Jazeera and I asked him why they show so many awful things like soldiers being killed and his response was "we show everything". It wasn't an admission of support for their content, it was an admission of viewers wanting to see it.

We have military bases in Qatar as well, they are kind of a middle man between us and the Muslim world.

I'm gonna explain soccer in 2 video clips.

This is FA cup final between Arsenal and Hull City 2 weeks ago.  Arsenal have not won a single thing in almost 9 years.  They been to FA cup final 3 times but they keep losing. Arsenal is a 5 largest club in the world and Hull City are a bunch of no bodies. Hull wearing orange and Arsenal is red.

Charlotte host the World Cup. that will never happen.

I can see Charlotte hosting group play or even a quarter final match.

The field is top notch.

But semis and final will be Dallas or LA or Miami.

I was wondering how could Charlotte possibly hold a World Cup when they don't have the infrostructure to host a Superbowl but then I realized we were talking about the year 2022 and who knows what can happen between now and then. Plus, I have absolutely no idea what it takes to host something like but I would think it would have to be second to the Olympics right?

Speaking of which, I heard on the radio that all but 2 countries (Kazakhstan and China) have dropped out of hosting the 2022 Olympics. Apparently the cost of putting it together and then dealing with all the infrostructure that is no longer needed when every goes home is ecomonically crippling for any host nation now.
