It is possible. Remy and Borini play the same position and both would be a back-up strikers, Lovren is a defender.

But I do believe he failed his medical. He done it many times before.

We  have no intention of starting Borini, so him being there is a non-factor for Remy. The only way it could be down to the Borini sale is money, which clearly isn't an issue.

 

I think Liverpool were just pissed that Remy didn't disclose his medical condition until the 11th hour.
