Josh Gordon may just be stupid

What happens if someone who plays for the Broncos or the Seahawks (places where weed is legal) fails a test for marijuana? Do they still get in trouble even though it's legal in their state?

it's not about law.

It's about the policies of the CBA & employer.

Any pro player that smokes is stupid.

Fixed it for ya.

Weed is not a bad thing.

Although some people certainly don't function wel on it.

What ya do in your own time is your business.

There are many circumstances that Iit isn't wise for one to smoke.

The real thing that nobody mentions when talking about weed, is responsibility.

You must be responsible in everything ya do.

No different from drinking.

Sometimes I smoke weed every day for two months and just quit out of boredness for 4-6 months.. Couldn't imagine how anyone would become addicted to pot.

pot itself is not addictive.

A lot of people have addictive personalities.

It's these people that can't quit.

But they're also the aame people that'll tdrink cough syrup to get high.

Then there are just idiots.

No helping them.

Some of the descriptions posters have said (arrogant, choosing drugs over money, knowing they have a drug test and still smoke/drink) are symptoms of addiction. The arrogant/denial part is most alarming.

There is a certain level of responsibility and them getting help for themselves is up to them and them alone. Sorry weed can be addictive. When you can't sleep can't eat because if weed withdrawals that is an addiction. It's not just he likes to smoke pot big deal.

When justin Blackmon chooses the bottle over millions and Gordon chooses to light up over millions they need to look in front of the mirror, surround themselves with non toxic people, and seek counseling. It's up to them and them alone. They have addiction problems and they need help

We have no way of knowing as of yet if that was really his friends marijuana or actually his. You are making your own conclusion there.

Well excuse me for trying to apply some rational thought to this, and not immediately jumping to the conclusion that he is just a stupid drug addict beyond any and all help. So because we don't agree about drug use, you think I would defend a murderer? The hell man?

I was actually giving him the benefit of the doubt, based on the statement made by the friend.

As for the murderer part, I was simply saying that you were saying he was only speeding when that was not the only offense, nor was it even what we were talking about. Breaking the law and giving the cops a reason to stop you is stupid, no matter what law you are breaking was my point.

It is pointless to bring up the speeding part as a defense when it is inconsequential to our discussion.

And  I never said he was a stupid drug addict beyond all help. I just said he was an idiot. You brought up addiction, not me.

I'd be willing to bet every single one of us knows or has known someone who just never seems to be able to get out of their own way.  It's always sad, and worse if they happen to be a member of your family.

Professional sports is an entirely different world from regular society,  Most of us never would have made it past a first drug test without losing their job.  In sports you can get multiple chances.

Yet somehow, some people still manage to squander them.

Lord knows there's no such thing as a right to get paid millions of dollars to play a game for a living.  If you get that job, it's because you earned the privilege.  But a sad reality about privileges of this sort: they can often be lost far more easily than they were earned.  And once they've been lost, the path to regaining them can be more difficult than the one you took to earn them in the first place.

To have done everything it took for all the years of your life just to get to this spot, and then piss it all away for something stupid...what can you even say?

There are players who get busted with a positive test one time that go into the program and never show up on that radar again.  Same with PEDs (which aren't really an 'addiction' issue).

But on the flipside, there are some players with whom, for whatever reason, the light just never seems to come on.  And in this case, I'm talking about stupid decisions more so than addiction.  Addiction is at least somewhat controllable.  Stupid decision making?  Much tougher to fix.

I'm guessing you might've known someone in your life who illustrated that.  I know I have.

You have to want to fix the problem, and some people just never seem to want that badly enough :(

first time offense for Ray Rice.

Let him be stupid enough to do it again, and it'll be a different story.

Nobody gets a year suspension for their first time.

id rather my player continually fail drug tests for marijuana throughout his entire career than hit his SO one time.

I still think suspending players an entire season for drug use is an overreaction, and ultimately not very helpful, at least not by itself. If you are going to take that kind of extreme step, then also require the player to complete a lengthy real legitimate rehabilitation program.

Start with poor decision making and an addiction prone personality; add youth, money, fame and privilege; mix with a large helping of enablers; throw in some leeches for good measure...

And there you have a recipe for disaster :(

I agree with that statement wholeheartedly. But unfortunately we do not get to make that call. And as long as the rules are the way they are, if someone shooses not to abide by them, then they are stupid.

I will give you an example, the player who was suspended for taking fertility drugs ( if that turns out to be true) should not be suspended in a perfect world. But he was because he did not inform the league that he would be taking them. It was a violation, plain and simple. If he turns around and does the same thing again, then he is stupid. Understand what I am trying to say?
